Great experience with a thorough and thoughtful physician. Waited a long time for an appointment, but was absolutely worth it. He's a great guy and a fabulous clinician.

I've been going to Dr. Stein since Dr. Fye died; and frankly, he is a very polite doctor, gets to the point, and I guess looking back at my first appointment I didn't really get a good vibe from him. However, we don't have a huge choice for rheumatology in Marin County, and after my second visit I was much more comfortable. All of these years later, I wouldn't want to see anyone else for my autoimmune issues. He is great, his staff is good and his partner in the practice is pleasant too.
I think some of these reviews are questionable at best. This is a very busy office, and both of the women who work the front desk are always smiling, and very pleasant, my prescriptions are refilled without any issue, and I get calls back in a very timely manner. There are times it will be weeks or even a month or so before I can get an appointment, and by then I will see my PCP and cancel the appointment because my symptoms have been addressed elsewhere.
Dr. Stein is a good doctor, he's very friendly, and personable. When he smiles, it seems all is right with the world even if you're feeling like it's not because you're sick with some sort of autoimmune disease.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rubie T.Valhalla, NY05Oct 15, 2020
This is a lazy doctor who should experience the pain I am having. He refused to submit a call to Silver script when they demanded authorization from him for a pain medication of lidocaine ointment for 2 weeks he and his secretary put in a prescription for a Patch of lidocaine for trombosed hemorroids it was a mistake than instead of calling to give them authorization he prescribed a 2% cream. My oncologist picked up the phone on the 15 th day and its in my hands that night. He also sent me to a pro chilly hat because he "doesn't examine hemorrhoids" who MISDIAGNOSED ME WITH NO CANCER! As it turned out another proctologist biopsy found it. Steer away from him and Dr Strombon in Northwell Sleepy Hollow NY

The comments about the office and the staff is true. A truly friendly and caring staff, and honestly, Dr. Stein is the best. He takes a lot of time with you and very thorough. The 3 stars are simply puzzling. He is an excellent doctor.

This allopath does not carefully review a patients history before cutting powerful pain killer prescriptions to recovering alcoholics. I have a family member who was just derailed by his loose prescription pad. Fortunately we caught it in time before anyone was hurt.
I understand that it is a challenge for a health care practitioner to evaluate the complete person, but a cursory review of this particular individuals medical record should have given Dr. Stein pause to evaluate a claim of pain more carefully.
Drug seekers this is your practice. 5 star lack of conscience or diligence in review of patient history.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Laddia S H.San Anselmo, CA0701Feb 12, 2019
Tried for 3 days to get an appointment only to be finally told I could not be seen for another two months. His receptionist was rude and unprofessional. When I told her I was in serious pain and needed to see Dr. Stein ASAP it did not matter.

Dr. Stein seems like a very blunt and to the point kind of doctor. He has years of experience from what I could guess and has a knowledge and learned understanding about his field. He will not throw around diagnoses just to satisfy the patient or paycheck. I was a competitive dancer and skier/ then snowboarder later. I had some problems with back pain at a young age requiring a couple procedures to fix it. However it did not fix it. Things progressed to more then just some aches, stiffness, fatigue, well last year I found some new answers but still did not get much better. Now I'm 27 I just had my 3rd baby a couple months ago and things are worse then ever. I am constantly woken up with severe pain, I face pain throughout my whole day and struggle to take care of my kids and home. I am so miserable. As a patient when you are in as much pain as I am and feeling this generally unwell it's hard to find a trustworthy doctor who knows what the heck their doing! I know I need someone who can figure it out and help me get better so I don't have to live this miserable. I feel Dr. Stein is exactly that a doctor who knows what he's doing. One that cares more about figuring out the puzzle so the patient can get better then getting them on their way. I care more about a knowledgeable doctor then a personable one that's just me.

Do not go to this particular rheumatologist. There are so few rheumatologists in Marin so this Doc has a bit of a monopoly and seems to be coasting. He was nice and personable but he did not even check my neck (I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis) and never called me with my test results - I left two messages and still no call back. Very, very unprofessional. I will not be seeing him again.

I started to see Dr. Stein 3 months back and they are pleasant experience since.
The doctor is always prompt to care my different issues and refer me for MRI and different specialist or therapy for further treatment. The office staffs on the phone or front desk all offers great help for misc. requests.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Luiz R.San Rafael, CA25Sep 21, 2015
Can't get a timely appointment even when in great pain. Didn't take X-rays at all to see if my problem, he sees as only arthritis, can possibly be something more. I've been given appts for shots that do not work even though I've shown him the contents of the injection I received that was very helpful. Often the folks in the front office are those not giving timely appointments but I don't know what else to do.
