Trendy places to eat and visit in Toronto Center

Hi All.

We are coming from Montreal for a few days and staying at the Royal York.

Travelling with two older teen girls and we are looking for some nice places to eat and things to see. Those of you with teens know how difficult it is to impress them ;)

We have a car, but would like to leave it parked and walk.

Thanks in advance for the ideas!

Hi cruisebaby;

For good food and GREAT views, I would suggest 360 The Restaurant at the CN Tower, situated at a level of 351 metres / 1151 feet, overlooking the city and Lake Ontario.

https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Restaurant_Review-g155019-d681795-Reviews-360_The_Restaurant_at_the_CN_Tower-Toronto_Ontario.html

The prices at 360 include the cost of going up the CN Tower, with access to the observation levels afterwards. The restaurant rotates, so you get a complete view every 72 minutes.

Google shows the walk to be about 11 minutes west of the Royal York.

Best Regards

I suggest you head out to the West Queen West neighbourhood - lots of great shops, restaurants, etc. out there. Basically it runs from Bathurst St. west to Dufferin St. The well known Graffiti Alley is just east of Bathurst.

Other neighbourhoods of interest, all easily reachable by transit, include Leslieville, Beaches, The Danforth, Ronscesvalles Village.

The St. Lawrence Market is just a couple of blocks east of the Royal York. Good place to pick up snacks, breakfast and lunch on the go.

On Saturdays, the Evergreen Brickworks market welcomes regional farmers.

BlogTO wil keep you up to date on events, restaurants, etc. happening in the city.

If cycling or walking is of interest, Toronto has extensive trails along the waterfront and through the ravine networks. Rent bikes and try some. Or rent paddleboards and explore the waters around the Toronto islands.

Even if you and your family are the types that do not visit museums, I would suggest Bata Shoe Museum. It is definitely unique, you will not find anything like anywhere. I am guessing that your teenage daughters like shoes and they will enjoy the place.

The food at the CN Tower is pretty mediocre, the view is spectacular. There should be enough eating places around the Royal York, especially to the east of the hotel, towards the St. Lawrence Market area.

Also, hop on the ferry and take a visit to the Islands, a great view of the city from there and from the ferry itself.

For a casual dinner with a hip vibe, consider Momofuku Noodle Bar on University Avenue (about a 10-15 minute walk from the Royal York). I’ve brought teens there a few times and they’ve always loved it.

The Distillery District has interesting architecture, a cool vibe, boutiques and one of a kind shops, cafes, and restaurants…They often have seasonal events

A 15 minute walk from the St Lawrence Market ( mentioned upthread) via either Front St, or The Esplanade…

I must respectfully disagree with laviniam, post # 4, re: food at 360. We have taken friends and family there and on our perhaps 5 visits, we have had delicious food and good service; to be fair though, our last visit was 3 years ago.

Our oldest granddaughter loves Fune, a Japanese restaurant that has boats of sushi going around a “ river” at the kitchen bar. If this would appeal, I highly recommend it.

My husband and I went to Toronto last summer for a few days and we went to 360. I really liked the experience. I thought of taking the girls there this year, but my daughter didn't look as impressed by it after she saw the price of the menu. LOL

I think they are looking to go somewhere more 'hip'.

Thanks for all the great ideas. Looking into a few of them! We are going in a few weeks and looking forward to it after a year locked down and working from home.
