CHARLESTON - Donald DeLine, 89, died at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 4, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Aug. 1, 1912, at Charleston, son of the late Charles L. and Lilly Elizabeth Millard DeLine, he was a retired farmer and landowner. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Charleston since 1927 and had served as church deacon for many years. He was awarded the title of deacon emeritus on May 21, 2000. He and his wife were honored as the Mississippi County Farm Family of the Year in 1978 and he served as sergeant in the U.S. Army in the Aleutian Islands during World War II.
On May 25, 1941, in Caruthersville, he married Anita M. Babb who preceded him in death on June 7, 2000.
He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Kevin DeLine; four brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Pam DeLine of Blytheville, Ark., and Smith and Mary Ann DeLine of Charleston; one brother, J.L. "Spec" DeLine of Charleston; and six grandchildren, Michael DeLine of Dublin, Ga., Donny DeLine of Charleston, Meg Reese and Amy Moerbe of Blytheville, and David DeLine and Mary Grace DeLine of Charleston.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Charleston where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Gerald Collier, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery in Charleston.
Pallbearers will be: Albert Goodin, Hoyt Barnes, Ray Presson, Roy Presson, Tim Layton and Leslie Collier. Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston is in charge of arrangements.
