We happen to walk by and saw the Michelin rating and decided to try it. Overall service was perfect, the food was very good, but I wouldn't say Michelin-rating good if you're coming from a big city with really high quality food. The local Madeira wine was wonderfully fresh and smooth and so was the local fish.

We (Catalan/Spanish & German) ate in several restaurants in Funchal and we would say that the "Dona Amelia" is certainly one of the top-places to go to. The cuisine is best described as an imaginative mix of traditional ingredients and international standards. There is a good range of quality fish and seafood dishes and a very good choice of wines. The service is impeccable and the food is of a high quality. The atmosphere not too formal to appear in jeans and t-shirt. The prices are a bit high maybe, but we would certainly recommended "Dona Amelia"!
