Martin Scorsese's daughter, 53, launches a GoFundme asking for people to donate $30,000 to help her house her pets because her $1.2million Brooklyn loft is flooded - despite her father being worth $100m

  • Catherine Scorsese, 53, is asking for donations to help house her pets
  • Her Brooklyn loft flooded in March and she is in a rental apartment in Manhattan
  • Her insurance company is paying for her temporary place, but she claims it is not big enough for her animals
  • Her half-sister launched the page and set a target of $30,000
  • Catherine said she was 'not a trust fund baby' and did not rely on her father

Martin Scorsese's daughter has launched a GoFundMe asking for donations to house her many pets while her $1.2million apartment is repaired despite her movie legend father being worth $100million.

Catherine Scorsese lives in a one-bedroom loft duplex in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, which she bought in 2007 for $800,000.

Now worth $400,000 more than that, it recently flooded with 'raw sewage' after a neighbor put shredded paper down the toilet and will take four months to repair before it is livable again.

Catherine, 53, has moved to an apartment in Manhattan that is being paid for by her insurance company but she claims is not big enough for her cats and dogs.

Her half-sister, Tanya, therefore set up the campaign on her behalf so that she would be able to pay for the animals' accommodation.

She has eight cats, some of which have special needs, and some dogs, according to her spokesperson.

A GoFundMe was started by Catherine Scorsese's half sister in April, looking to raise money to help house Catherine's many pets while her Brooklyn apartment was being renovated

She is asking for $30,000 and has already raised $6,105 but some have criticized her for asking for help when her own family is so wealthy.

She has hit back, saying she does not rely on her father's money and that it was a kind-hearted gesture from her sister that has now spun out of control.

Speaking to DailyMail.com, a representative for Catherine said: 'This all started as such a sweet, generous offer. Her sister wanted to help her because the insurance company was taking so long.

'She's not begging for money and she is not a trust fund baby either.

'She is an independent woman who has been working in the entertainment world for years,' she said.

While her half-sister created the account, Catherine has since allowed it to remain active and provided photographs and videos of inside the home to convey the damage.

Her representative said she was apprehensive about the campaign but allowed her sister to make it to 'support her.'

In the GoFundMe page, Catherine's half-sister Tanya Barach says she is in 'dire need' of friends' help.

Her father is aware of the damage but did not know about the campaign until recently.

Her representative could not say whether or not he has now offered to pay for her pets' shelter.

'I'm certain that he's a wonderful man and probably has offered, but Catherine is an independent,' she said.

'She does not ask her dad for things, she's not that girl. They are not that family,' she added.
