This is why we will always love you, Dolly Parton. The "Jolene" singer is doing her part to provide both emotional and financial support amid the devastating coronavirus pandemic.
On Wednesday, the singer announced that she is donating $1 million to Vanderbilt University's coronavirus research. She says the university is making some "exciting advancements" towards finding a cure.
"My longtime friend Dr. Naji Abumrad, who's been involved in research at Vanderbilt for many years, informed me that they were making some exciting advancements towards research of the coronavirus for a cure," she wrote in a statement posted on her Instagram.
Dolly urged those who are able to donate to the cause as well.
The iconic singer also shared an Instagram video giving thanks to "the first responders, servicemen and servicewomen, and healthcare professionals all around the world."
“I know it’s easy for us to sit home and watch you on television and feel sorry for you because what you’re going through, but we are at war and you’re on the frontlines,” she said in the heartfelt video. “We just want you to know we’re praying for you and we appreciate you more than you can imagine."
Earlier this week, Dolly announced her new virtual storytime series, "Goodnight With Dolly," in an effort to bring hope and comfort to parents and children coping with shelter-in-place mandates amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In the series, which kicks off April 2 at 7 p.m. EST, Dolly will read classic children's books including The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper, Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney, and her own Coat of Many Colors.
