memeboy 2 good for the most part Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/19/23 Full Review Rylen P An excellent western you can see how this movie inspired future directors Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/15/23 Full Review Alexander B This film was way ahead of it's time and was hugely influential on many modern filmmakers. It's over the top and satirical especially for the time it was made. It mixes action, thriller and western all very well. I had a lot of fun watching it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/11/23 Full Review Classic Italian western imbued with the atmosphere of spaghetti from and to. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/23/22 Full Review johnathon w Superb spaghetti western thanks to Franco Nero's excellent lead performance and Sergio Corbuccoi's unrelenting direction. Nero brings real gravitas as Django, whether seducing woman or wielding a mini-gun. Corbuccoi's direction is unrelenting, both in the violence and subject matter, especially in dealing with racist attitudes. The result is one of the better spaghetti westerns, not a classic, but a great watch. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Taylor L Though Sergio Leone would write his name into the cinema history books for his loose Yojimbo adaptation in a Spaghetti Western format, Django is more than just a pale imitation of its earlier genre cousin (though Corbucci was clearly angling to capture a similar audience). A capable film notable for its then-excessive violence, using a trend towards sadism to not only develop character but theme; the world built here is wonderfully small-scale and self-contained, intentionally presented as a violent, grubby personal hellscape with a character chained to death, pulling a coffin around through the (often unrealistically wet) mud. This film inspired a few dozen essentially unrelated sequels, but I'm not ashamed to say that my simmering interest in this property was mostly to understand the references that Tarantino used. Kevin Maher Times (UK) It plays like a darker, nastier B-side to A Fistful of Dollars... Rated: 4/5 Jan 12, 2024 Full Review Budd Wilkins Slant Magazine Sergio Corbucci's film is notable not only for the artistry of its construction, but also for the underlying anger that fuels its political agenda. Rated: 3.5/4 Dec 20, 2012 Full Review John Townsend Starburst Corbucci’s film is as angry as it is poignant, filled with its director’s intense hatred for fascism while refusing to allow any character what could be truly defined as a happy ending or arguably even redemption. Rated: 4/5 Jan 22, 2024 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …a refreshingly amoral take on the Western back in 1966, and offers superior stagecraft to the many genre imitations that follow, plus a great centre in Nero… Rated: 4/5 Dec 17, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Corbucci’s style and genre-rich direction gives the movie a kick that you don’t find in most studio Westerns. “Django” could be too much for traditionalists, but that’s exactly what will makes it so beloved by others. Rated: 4/5 Aug 16, 2022 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Don't be fooled into believing that Django had approximately two dozen sequels, as practically all (like Django Kill... If You Live, Shoot! and Django the Bastard) were merely unrelated rip-offs and most only included a character named Django in the title! Rated: 3/4 Jun 6, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews
