So first things first, we all know what a currency is, but do you know what a currency code is? Also called an ISO currency code, it’s basically a three-letter alphabetic code which represents a currency, for example EUR (euro) or USD (US dollar). Likewise, each currency has a symbol, letting you know that a number has a monetary value, such as $ or £. 

There are 180 currencies in the world, circulating in 195 countries. To get the most out of your visit to any country, it's good to get an understanding of its currency. What currency does Turkey use? 

Turkey uses the Turkish lira as currency. The new series of Turkish lira notes came into circulation in 2009, and the currency code is TRY. In some tourist hot-spots the euro will occasionally be accepted, but take liras with you as this isn’t guaranteed. 

What currency does Greece use? 

Greece uses the euro as currency and was one of the first countries to introduce euro banknotes and coins in 2002. 

What is the currency in Croatia? 

As of January 2023, Croatia uses the euro as currency. Before then, the Croatian kuna (HRK) was in circulation.

Currency exchange rates fluctuate all the time. But as of January 2024, the strongest currency in the world is the Kuwaiti dinar, followed by the Bahraini dinar and Omani rial
