Dennis D. Siver (born January 13, 1979) born in Omsk, to a family of Russian citizens of German descent, is a mixed martial arts fighter. Siver currently competes in the UFC's Featherweight division after spending most of his career at Lightweight and Welterweight. Siver holds notable wins over Spencer Fisher, George Sotiropoulos, Diego Nunes and Manvel Gamburyan.
Mixed Martial Arts Career[]
Siver started his career in small local shows in Germany and England, amongst other European countries. He fought most frequently for Cage Warriors in England, compiling a record of 3 wins and 1 loss, most notably, one win coming against Jim Wallhead.
Ultimate Fighting Championships[]
After his win against Jim Wallhead at CWFC - Enter The Rough House, Siver was signed by UFC. His debut was against Jess Liaudin at UFC 70 in Manchester, England where he lost via submission (armbar), just 81 seconds into the first round.[1]
Siver was able to bounce back though at UFC 75, again in England. He defeated Naoyuki Kotani via knockout (punch) in the second round.[2] This was followed up by a loss to Gray Maynard at UFC Fight Night 12, via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28 and 30-27).
Siver's final match of his first UFC stint was a loss to Melvin Guillard at UFC 86. This fight marked the first knockout loss of Siver's career, which came after just 36 seconds of the first round.[3]
Release[]
Siver was released soon by the UFC soon after, having compiled a 1-3 record and had his first post-UFC fight at Tempel: Mix Fight Gala VII against Chas Jacquier. Siver won the fight via submission (guillotine choke) at 4:21 of the first round. This win earned Siver's return ticket.
Return to Ultimate Fighting Championships[]
His return fight was against Nate Mohr at UFC 93 in Dublin, Ireland. In the third round, Siver was able to TKO his opponent via a spinning back kick and punches. This TKO victory was also awarded the Knockout of the Night award.[4]
His second opponent was against Dale Hartt at UFC 99, which was the first UFC event held in Siver's home country of Germany. Siver won the fight via submission (rear naked choke) after 3 minutes of the first round.[5]
Siver then fought Paul Kelly at UFC 105 in Manchester, England and in the same fashion as his victory over Mohr, was able to TKO his opponent via spinning back kick and punches. Once again, the TKO earned Siver the Knockout of the Night.[6]
Siver faced Ross Pearson on March 31, 2010 at UFC Fight Night 21. He lost the fight via unanimous decision. His fight with Pearson got Fight of the Night.[7]
Siver then won a unanimous decision over Spencer Fisher at The Ultimate Fighter 14 finale on June 19, 2010.[8] Followed up with a first round submission win over Andre Winner on November 13, 2010, at UFC 122.[9]
At UFC 127, Siver faced Australian George Sotiropoulos on February 27, 2011. Siver showed good takedown defense and picked Sotiropoulos apart on the feet, earning a unanimous decision.[10]
The following July, Siver fought and defeated Matt Wiman at UFC 132 by unanimous decision in a close contest. Siver stated at the post-fight press conference that while the decision was close, that he wouldn't go back and score the fight any differently.[11]
Siver was scheduled to fight Sam Stout on October 29, 2011, at UFC 137.[12] But it was announced on August 29 that Stout had withdrew from the bout.[13] Stout was replaced with Donald Cerrone.[14] Siver was rocked early with a head kick which ultimately lead to a rear-naked choke loss.[15]
Siver was set to fight Ross Pearson in a rematch at UFC on Fuel TV: Gustafsson vs. Silva on April 14, 2012.[16] However, Siver instead fought and won a unanimous decision over Diego Nunes at the same event, in his Featherweight debut.[17]
Siver was expected to face Eddie Yagin on September 1, 2012 at UFC 151.[18] However, after UFC 151 was cancelled, Siver/Yagin was rescheduled for December 8, 2012 at UFC on Fox 5.[19] It was then announced that Yagin had been forced out of the bout due to a sparring injury that landed him in the hospital with swelling around his brain, and was replaced by Nam Phan.[20] He won the fight via unanimous decision.
Siver lost by third round TKO in his next fight against Cub Swanson in a bout that earned Fight of the Night on July 6, 2013, at UFC 162.[21] The following December, he followed up with a decision win over Manvel Gamburyan at UFC 168.[22]
