Dennis
Joseph McElligott

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Dennis McElligott announces his sudden passing at his home on January 2, 2021.

Left to cherish his memory, Dennis is survived by his children Kevin (Ann) McElligott, Kerrie (Steve Perault) English, and Melodie (Darcy) Wasylyshen. He is also survived by his sister Maureen Bricker, brother Mike Howard, and sister-in-law Margaret McElligott, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Dennis was predeceased by his parents Mary Anne and Michael (Denis), sister Joan (Raymond), brothers Jackie and Jimmy (Sandra), and granddaughter Katelyn.

Dennis was born in Montreal, Quebec, where he grew up and went to school. Later, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy, then returned to Montreal where he married, and his three children were born. Dennis came to Saskatoon in the spring of 1971, where he continued his education and attended the Calder Rehab Centre. It was there where he began along his path of sobriety.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) changed Dennis' life, and he became a passionate supporter of the organization. From 1973 to 1991 he was Managing Director of the Crysler Residence, a halfway house for recovering alcoholics run by the Saskatoon Alcoholism Society. Until his final days, Dennis attended regular AA meetings and was a pillar of hope and support to those he crossed paths with and sponsored throughout the AA community. Spring of 2021 would have marked Dennis' 50th year of sobriety.

Dennis was very active and enjoyed a wide variety of sports. He was athletic all his life, taking part in boxing, hockey, baseball, and more, but his #1 passion was golf. His clubs went everywhere from Wildwood Golf Course to Riverside Country Club, where he played every chance he could get. While most people would be content with a single hole-in-one, Dennis managed to get 7 in his lifetime! Off the golf course, Dennis regularly enjoyed meeting up with friends for long talks over coffee, spending time with his grandchildren, and going out dancing with his dear friend Donna most Saturday Nights

For a brief time, Dennis owned and operated Med-Equip, selling home health care products. However, in 1994 he worked at Cardwell Human Resources until his retirement.

In memory of Dennis, donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Friendship Inn www.friendshipinn.ca/donate-online/. Arrangements in care of Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200 www.mourningglory.ca.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date, when groups can safely gather, to remember Dennis and the life he lived.

Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
