Dengue fever is a disease caused by a family of viruses transmitted by mosquitoes. It can affect anyone but tends to be more severe in people with compromised immune systems. Dengue fever can be caused by any of the five serotypes of the dengue virus, so it is possible to get dengue fever multiple times. Other names for dengue fever include "breakbone fever" or "dandy fever."
