Sweating is something extremely common and prevalent in people of all ages. It can either be triggered by hot and humid climate or due to certain physical activities that make you feel warm. All in all, sweating is a normal bodily function that helps regulate your body temperature. However, when you sweat excessively, it can be a matter of grave concern and might need special attention.

What is excessive sweating?
Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis is a condition that can be caused by various reasons. While sweating is normal, perspiring uncontrollable can mean sweating more than is necessary to maintain a normal body temperature.
If you have no reason to sweat i.e. if you do not feel warm, are not exercising or aren't eating anything spicing and are still sweating profusely, may have a condition known as craniofacial hyperhidrosis.
Two types of hyperhidrosis
There are two kinds of hyperhidrosis i.e. primary and secondary.
Primary hyperhidrosis is common amongst people and is not caused by medical condition, physical activity, or increased temperature.
Secondary hyperhidrosis, on the other hand, is triggered by different medical conditions or medications such as heart diseases, respiratory illnesses, cancer, diabetes, menopause and also by certain antidepressants.

What causes excessive sweating on the scalp?
Excessive sweating on the scalp can be quite problematic. Not only can it lead to dirty hair, dandruff and itching, it can make your scalp seem extremely shiny and oily. Hyperhidrosis on the scalp can be caused due to many reasons. Some of the prevalent reasons are as follows.
- Heat
- Anger and anxiety
- Hormones
- Spicy foods
- Medications
- Excessive workout
How to treat?
The damage caused by excessive scalp sweating can be numerous. But you can always take measures to prevent it and/or treat it on time.
While excessive sweating is a result of stress and anxiety, it is important that you manage and reduce your stress levels. You can try relaxing ways to treat your anxiety and can also engage in yoga and meditation practices.
Apart from that, you can apply apple cider vinegar to your hair, which restores the pH balance of your scalp, and can also control the secretion of sweat.
Wearing cool and comfortable clothing can also reduce the level of sweating and bring it to a normal range.
Finally, drinking plenty of water is key to regulating your body temperature. This can prevent you from sweating excessively and also keep you hydrated for a longer period of time.
Do not forget to wash your hair frequently, especially in summers, as your scalp produces more sweat during this time and may lead to more scalp-related issues.
