The strange and brutal deaths of Cory’s grandparents has haunted him for years. I remember this VHS cover quite well, but I also know that I completely took it for granted at the time just like I did almost all of the truly amazing 80’s/90’s VHS covers because they were the peak of movie art and it’s just not really up for debate unless you want to argue that 70’s covers were just as good in which case I’d be willing to listen, but you probably won’t convince me. Anyway, my point is that this movie is yet another case of me always seeing it at the video store and never renting it. Turns out it’s pretty good!

The beginning certainly could have found a smoother way to set things up: after the prologue, we flash forward to the present, only to flash back to a different prior event, then into a dream flashback — all in the course of about 10 minutes. Some of that could have been drip-fed later.

I really need to thank Belial for making me aware of this movie, just in time for the Vinegar Syndrome Black Friday sale. This is an amazingly wacky horror flick that takes a lot of cues from Evil Dead. I had to check the credits to see if there were any Italians involved in making this movie, since it has that almost dreamlike, nonsensical quality to it. Nope, this is a strictly American affair.

From that epic blood red title crawl and the bleak af intro scene we know we are in for a epic journey of the absurd. Then we meet our comical 43 year olds playing 17 year olds and all logic is thrown straight out the window. These crazy teenagers dropkick pop cans, wear ridiculous outfits and talk like they are reading cue cards in pig Latin.
Accomplishing the perfect amount of shennanigans can be a delicate art mastered over many moons. For Demon Wind however; shennanigans are an easy feat. Wild SFX, perfect amounts of cheese and a plot that goes to its own strange rhythm make this a film you do not want to miss out on.
Do you hear that? Is it the wind? Nope it's the Demon Wind!
Glorious Evil Dead inspired nonsense. Demon Wind firmly falls into the so-bad-it's-good category. The characters are silly and the interactions they have with each other are weird as hell. Nobody responds to anything like they would in real life. That's what makes it so entertaining though. That, and the excellent practical effects.

I don’t even know where to begin with this fucking movie. Saw it once in 91 and didn’t really register, made it a visual joke in my senior thesis short film (a scene set in a video store) but never saw again till Shudder put it up.

Somehow feel like the spoof on the already spoof heavy Evil Dead series was NOT in fact Army of Darkness but this movie. Has the best meta line out of the entire meta horror 90's. This wasn’t so much of a movie, as an arranged marriage.
At first, I honestly hadn’t paid it any attention. I had seen it’s poster hanging around the site, maybe mindlessly liking a review of it here and there, but had never really thought (with any sort of seriousness) about watching it myself. The poster looks like cover art from a bootleg NES cartridge. The title is atrocious, and takes any sense of dread out of an impending viewing and replaces it with fart jokes. And that tag line…What? You didn’t have a whole other 5 seconds to brainstorm a second idea?

I see the Evil Dead thing but this landscape is infinitely more hazy hypnotic post-apocalyptic. Wizards who are Demons and Demons who are Wizards. Everyone's a Demon! It's just a big dreamy Wizard/Demon Slumber Party in another dimension, what's the big deal?

I've logged this a lot but I just had to fit in a quintessential Vinegar Syndrome mind melter on this most prestigious occasion. Demon Wind is the ultimate low budget shlockfest. It combines all of the most enjoyable ingredients of goopy cheesy direct to video madness.
The 47 year old coked out looking actors playing 19 year olds, the overuse of smoke machines, dream logic and lofi surrealism, the cheapo lasery FX, the disjointed logic and confusing plot and that indefinable unintentional stroke of genius film making.
