3 & 1/4 stars. The creepy factor got more intense as the plot developed. The music is part ethnic, part scary. The acting is very emotional. Part history, part antisemitic, part mysticism. Had this film had English voice-over I would have given it a higher rating. The subtitles were white on a light background which was unhelpful.

A really good horror film all around. An engaging plot, good acting, well shot. In most horror films I think you almost always know where the film is going but not here. In some ways though it had many archetypal elements of horror it also did not follow any of the real basic plot structures. Example; where as a ghost story normally tries to tell you the story of the former ghosts life this instead does not to have a bigger more profound impact. I really like this film and would highly recommend.

Too scrappy and sloppy and hysterical to be particularly good. Heavy handed metaphor abounds. There are plenty of less self important movies desk with the themes. And thanks to The Shining for a ridiculous rip off ending. Note to critics - good intentions don't always make for good movies / stop the appeasing. Did viewers honestly consider this a horror movie? Horrible perhaps.

Gave it a star for some decent acting, but this movie just is not that good. One or two scenes with good atmosphere, and that's it. It just builds up and then meanders around in a very boring way, finishing with an extremely unsatisfying, anticlimactic ending. Really don't get what others see in this film. Waste of time

I don't typically enjoy horror movies and this movie reinforced that. With that said its masterfully acted and the portrayal of a polish wedding was worth the time investment. But I was left disturbed, and don't gravitate to the genre.
