Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I live locally and have eaten, and drank, at define on several occasions as well being a regular customer for their unparalleled (in the locale) wine selections. First of all let’s talk about the wine. It’s fantastic. You can either choose to use a define...charge card, put some cash on it, and peruse the ‘wine optics’, sampling as you go. A great way to try a few different wine selections. If that’s not quite to your liking, you can take any bottle of wine in the venue, add a £5 corkage fee for bottles under £30...or forego the charge for bottles over.....it’s great. On my last visit a few weeks ago we had a lovely little bottle of Chablis Premier Cru for around £30 with our small plates starter.....amazing. The food is also very good. The menu is quite small but is perfectly balanced (in my opinion) with small tapas style plates, and larger main course comprising fish and meat dishes. We last ate there on a Saturday evening just before Christmas and had a few small plates to start followed by fish cakes and lamb tagine main courses. All of the dishes were great. If you’re looking for a great place to choose and enjoy wine coupled with a good selection of tapas style small plates and full size main courses then you’re probably over due a visit here.More

Popped in on Sunday for late breakfast with my friend, always lovely friendly staff, very attentive. GReat choice on the menu and great value for money too. Breakfast was hot and beautifully presented, my favourite dish is the mushrooms on toast with a poached egg,...absolutely delicious as are many of the other items of which I have also eaten too!More

Stylish restaurant in a great wine shop. In spite of COVID restrictions (reassuringly comprehensive) the welcome is warm, the menu of small plates is both innovative and delicious and the choice of wine amazing. A sophisticated but unpretentious gem which has never failed to please....A pleasure to be able to support local enterprise.More

First visit after recommendation from friends. Food from the bruch menu was good, only issue was the service. Apart from a nice, helpful young man that served us initially, the rest of the staff could be with a bit more training especially the lady that...is possibly the manager. After we finished our meal, we waited for over 15 minutes for one of the waitresses to take away our plates and that was only because we stopped her when she walked past to ask for coffe. The manager went past us at least 3 times and could not be bothered to stop. I could understand it if they were full, but they were not. When we paid the bill and walked past her, she didn't even bother to say thank you or any kind of good bye. Very disappointing when you go to a nice place with good food but most of the staff that give you the impression that they could be doing something better than looking after customers that keep them in a job.More

I had high hopes here and the place is beautiful. There's a deli selling cooked meats and cheese and the restaurant is very nice. The menu is not that easy to follow and is based on the idea of tapas. The prices look high for...tapas and the portions are really small compounding the price issue. The service was really quite slow and ordering more food to overcome the portion size problem was not an option given the limited time we were allowed at the table. I have to say I liked the food but rare pork is not for everyone. It’s also worth noting that some of the food was cool but that may have been intentional. This may work well for “ladies who lunch” but for a proud Yorkshire man looking for better value I felt it was overpricedMore

Not been for a while (lockdown) but visited with friends for two birthdays. On arrival our table wasn’t ready - no problem, we were 15 minutes early. We sat in the ‘bar area’ to wait, and were told we’d be able to order drinks. Not...so. We waited and waited…. Our table was ready. We finally ordered drinks and food (service was slow, but the place was busy so we accepted that). The food came out after a long wait, with one dish being 25 minutes after the others (we had to chase for it). Had to ask for clean plates for the cheese and biscuits. (Don’t get me on the £15 charge for 5 slithers of cheese and a handful of crackers). Had to catch the attention of a staff member to order more drinks. Overall we were very disappointed. The young staff seemed out of their depth with nobody visible to steer the ship, so to speak. Service was poor (we almost contested the service charge automatically added to the bill), food was ok, my gnocchi was bland, but we felt disappointed by our visit. As locals, sadly we won’t be retuning,More

Haven’t visited Define for a while & they’ve made a few changes. Although I understand these were to make themselves as Covid secure as possible it doesn’t feel like a compromise. The bar now at the end looks great & the blue paneling makes it...feel warmer. The staff are all really friendly & they are clearly taking all the COVID guidance very seriously. But to the food... gorgeous duck croquettes with cherries ( few more cherries would be even better), substantial helping of perfectly cooked padrón peppers & duck with blackberries & really good pickled carrots. We also had pork belly which is served in thin slices so whilst it tasted great, it’s different to the way it’s normally served. Good, crunchy sweet potato fries. We finished with a cheese selection, three were very good but the fourth one was in quite thin slivers. As expected delicious wines! Sadly due to COVID closing times we couldn’t indulge in too many wines by the glass...maybe next time !More

Superb Sunday lunch for Sharing, (£55 a couple) superb beef and overal was enough of it, great yorkies and great roasties. But shy on vegetables for two people, especially as neither of us wanted the cauliflower cheese. (But the option of extra veges would have...been nice) We had a lovely bottle of wine (12.50p corkage on a £17.50 bottle was a shock) and then a 10% gratuity on that as well as part of the overal bill, So if you are taking the £55 per couple option as that is superb value for two course. £27.50p each but the added on costs are great. We was offered some bread and olives as we waited, (as they cook the beef on order, 30 mins) would have been nice to have been advised what the costs were as the menus had been taken at this point. Superb food, service was ok (very keen to serve, so asked in the space of about 3 minutes if we was ready to order by at least 3 different people) so communications between staff needs to improved. Overall 4.5/5 or 9/10More

Angelo, Shirley and I enjoyed a lovely lunch at Define today. The two course selection to two dinners at £45.00 was very good but as we selected the Ribeye steak there was a £10.00 supplement. As befits what is a wine specialist my single glass...of Juno Malbec was at the perfect temperatures. Unfortunately the only thing preventing a 5* was that the Ribeye although well rested was slightly cool Had my beautiful daughter Shirley not become slightly in settled I would have like to investigate the excellent wine selection Last time I visited they still had a pre paid card wine dispensary, I still have a card with about £50.00 on its but heaven knows if they would honor it or still be able to read it ? We will definitely returnMore

This was our first visit to Define. We were imediatley impressed by the elelgant contenpory design and decor with the endless shelves of wine and spirits for sale and the light and airy dining room. The wine list contained 32 interesting wines to order by...the glass. In adition, Define offered the unique opportunity to select any of the 1200 wines in the retail shop with only a £12.50 corkage charge on top of the retail price.. From the unusual menu we chose to share the iberica pork with smoked paprika potatoes and goats cheese (£37.50) along with side dishes of sweet potato fries (£4.50) and hispi cabbage (£6.00). All were well presented and delicious to taste. A deconstructed cheesecake finished an excellent meal. Finally. before we left, we took time to browse the endless shelves of interesting and less common wines and purchase for home consumption.More

The new (COVID friendly) Sunday lunch was a triumph. We had the Cote de boeuf and the chicken. Both dishes were exceptional especially as they were accompanied by a couple of chilled Weetwoods and a glass of wine. The service was excellent - everything served...with a smile. Absolutely nothing to fault - it was a great Sunday lunch with the family.More

We absolutely love this place. The last time we visited was just before the 2nd lockdown. The food was gorgeous as always and the service was great too. It’s the only place that we will eat at as we have been so disappointed with other...local restaurants. It’s also our 4 year old sons favourite restaurant, he loves the pizzette and duck (when it’s available) and always has a glass of milk and ice cream to finish. We have booked already for the 2nd weekend in December and cannot wait, we have missed you. (We also think that the changes that have been made to make it COVID safe are an improvement, well done x)More

Lovely meal but was disappointed to pay £15 for 2 x scallops. That's £7.50 for 1 scallop which seems ridiculous. We should of said something at the time but we didn't want to ruin our meal/experience as we were on a date night! We eat...out at a lot of resturants and do not mind paying higher prices for quality food but the ratio of £1 vs Scallops was a bit ridiculous. Pork, venison and croquettes were delicious. Wine was fab and service was OK.More

Sorry, they don't offer Afternoon Tea. Lots of nice wines to taste, they offer wine tasting concept and sharing board nibbles.
