NBA rumors: DeAndre Jordan close to deal with Dallas?

More on DeAndre Jordan Free Agency

Clippers executives touched on a variety of topics during the three-hour meeting, including increased marketing opportunities for a player who has lagged in that department behind teammates Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, star pitchmen for several national brands. Coach Doc Rivers also addressed tensions between Paul and Jordan that have given the center pause about his desire to continue playing for the only NBA team he has known in his seven professional seasons. A person close to Jordan who attended the meeting described the Clippers' presentation as "tight," saying "they had their stuff together."
David Baumann: Source: Mavs are "optimistic" they lured DeAndre from LAC after meetings today. Prior to FA, DJ texted @RyanTotka "really considering it."
Mark Medina: Clippers center DeAndre Jordan met with Dallas this a.m. He will meet with Lakers tonight, Knicks Thurs morning & Clippers Thurs afternoon
Sam Amick: No agreement w/ DeAndre Jordan and the Mavs after their meeting in LA tonight. Matthews meeting over also. More clarity for Dallas tomorrow.
The Dallas Mavericks had a pair of dinners with prominent free agents in Los Angeles as free agency opened at midnight ET Wednesday, meeting with Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan and Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard Wesley Matthews, according to league sources. Sources told ESPN.com that small forward Chandler Parsons, power forward Dirk Nowitzki and owner Mark Cuban met with Jordan, who had a Wednesday morning meeting scheduled with the Mavs. The Mavs are attempting to persuade Jordan, a third-team All-NBA center who will receive a max contract, to leave the Clippers to be a focal point for the Mavs.
Marc Stein: Immediate change to DeAndre Jordan's meeting schedule: ESPN sources say Mavs having dinner with Clippers center as we speak
Adrian Wojnarowski: The Lakers are working to unload contracts, trying to create significantly more salary cap space, league sources tell Yahoo Sports. Around the league, executives believe the Lakers are pursuing space to offer free agent deals to LaMarcus Aldridge and DeAndre Jordan.
The Clippers, who will have Coach Doc Rivers, owner Steve Ballmer and a video presentation, will be the last team to meet with Jordan on Thursday, the officials said. Jordan has gotten a call from Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, the officials said. Bryant wanted Jordan to know the Lakers are interested.
Tim MacMahon: Mavs have DeAndre Jordan meeting Wednesday morning, LaMarcus Aldridge that afternoon. Both in LA. Mavs' recruiting committee: Mark Cuban, Donnie Nelson, Rick Carlisle and Chandler Parsons. Dirk is available this week if needed.
Aldridge, whom sources say is all but certain to leave Portland, will also meet with the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers. Jordan will also meet with the Mavs, Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers, according to sources.
DeAndre Jordan could be the difference in whether they sink or swim next season. The 26-year-old free agent center who spent his first seven seasons with the Clippers is clearly giving serious thought to changing jerseys, as three people with knowledge of his situation said he is expected to meet with at least four teams — the Clippers, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks — in the first few days of free agency. The meetings are expected to take place in the Los Angeles office where Jordan's representatives, Dan Fegan and Happy Walters of Relativity Sports, are based. The people spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the process.
Jordan said all along that he was going to test these free agency waters, telling USA TODAY Sports in mid-March that this is the way it would go. He is hopeful to make a decision by July 3 or 4.
The Los Angeles Times recently reported the Bucks were among four teams that will meet with unrestricted Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan at his home in Houston. Besides the Bucks, The Times reported Dallas, the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers are on Jordan’s short list. Sources contend Jordan will either remain with the Clippers or go to Dallas. They say an arrangement where the 26-year-old Jordan goes to Dallas and Mavericks center Tyson Chandler, 32, winds up the Clippers is a viable possibility. Interestingly, none of the aforementioned teams might not even be Jordan’s preference.

The Mavericks, I’m told, have indeed likely moved on from Theo Pinson. The free agent swingman, as things stand entering summer league, is not expected back in Dallas as part of the many changes anticipated to the Luka Dončić/Irving supporting cast. Trading Tim Hardaway Jr. and either trading or releasing JaVale McGee remain expected moves beyond all of the action in North Texas so far.
Fred VanVleet is fired up to be joining the Rockets … telling TMZ Sports that after spending the past seven seasons in Toronto, he’s “looking forward” to the new sitch!! The All-Star guard explained his excitement to us over his new 3-year, $130 million contract with Houston while he was out getting some shopping done on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills this week. While he obviously loved his time with the Raptors (the guy, after all, won a championship and made his first-ever All-Star team in Toronto), he did admit he’s eager to get everything going in H-Town.
“Yes, [it’s] a combination,” Vaughn said of a shift in timetable from 30-something stars to a core of players between 24 and 27 years old growing together. “I think we still [have] our best versatility and the people that we can throw on the floor. “We’ve got two 18-year-olds that are part of our program now, and another second-round pick in Jalen Wilson who has experience and won at a high level, so I’m looking forward to see what he can do. But I think overall, we addressed growing together and being able to be good right now and maximize who we have on the roster right now, but also looking forward to the future.”
According to Elias Sports Bureau, the Nets went into last season as the NBA’s sixth-oldest team, and ended it the 10th-oldest. They got younger after parting ways with Mills (34), Curry (32) and Harris (31), and are now middle-of-the-pack in age. Dinwiddie, Royce O’Neale and Dorian Finney-Smith are their three oldest players now, all having turned 30 in the past few months. O’Neale and Finney-Smith have been mentioned in trade rumors. The Nets’ recent free-agent signees, Lonnie Walker IV (24) and Dennis Smith Jr. (25), are younger and defense-minded. “You have the group embrace where we are right now and embrace how you can grow together,” Vaughn told NBA TV. “Don’t look two steps beyond, what could happen, what might happen two years from now. I think you embrace where we are as a team, really dive into that and I think that’s where the growth happens.”
Keyonte George’s lock screen on his phone is part of a graphic he saw during the pre-draft process. The graphic listed George’s weaknesses as a prospect — his lack of athleticism, his 3-point consistency, his shot selection and his assist/turnover ratio. He keeps the image on his phone so that he has to see it every day and he’s reminded of the things that he needs to do better, the things that he build on to prove the doubters wrong. “I wake up every morning with this on my phone,” George said. “Each time I’m going into a game or I’m going into workout, that’s my main focus, each and every day, each and every game. Let’s take care of all this — take good shots, even if they’re not falling, just make sure we take great shots, play with the basketball … and that’s what I feel like I did tonight.”
Eric Walden: Keyonte George said he found a graphic online that had the most common weaknesses attributed to him from all his draft assessments. He took a screenshot and made it his phone’s wallpaper. “Those are the things I gotta sharpen up, and you’re gonna see me locking in.” pic.twitter.com/duNlKQTQlK

The were jitters, understandably, for Jaylen Martin early on in his NBA Summer League debut. The last organized basketball game Jaylen Martin had played in came against high schoolers. Now the former Overtime Elite standout was facing grown men, wearing a Knicks jersey and hoping to impress his new team. It didn’t start well, but by the end of the game, the 6-foot-6 wing had made an impact. The Tallahassee, Fla., native nearly helped the Knicks rally from a 16-point, second-half deficit before they lost, 110-101, to the 76ers at Cox Pavilion on Saturday night. “I feel like as the game went on, I loosened up and was able to play my game,” Martin said after he scored 12 points on 3-for-8 shooting and added two rebounds. “Just get comfortable on the court.”
