69% 16 Reviews Tomatometer 90% Fewer than 50 Ratings Audience Score In the mythology of "Dead Like Me," certain people, when they die, are offered the job of grim reapers. They get a rapidly healing physical body (which has a different face when seen by the living) and the chance to stay in the world until they collect a requisite number of souls. Then, the job passes to the last dead person on their list. The newest addition to this team is Georgia "George" Lass, who died at 18 after being struck by flaming space debris. She was pretty unhappy in life, and learning that death doesn't offer relief from living is not sitting very well with her. Read More Read Less Watch on Fandango at Home Premiered Sep 05 Buy Now

      Critics Consensus

Dead Like Me is a required (after)taste, but the series' acidic wit and wry observations about the simple pleasures of life and death overcome the deficit in likable characters.

Audience Member Quirky and irreverent! I found several characters highly likable, contrary to the above review. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a dark witty comedy. The lore created for it is decently cool. Its not something that you'll fall in love with, but something you wont hate yourself for binge watching. Melanie McFarland Seattle Post-Intelligencer You have to like the ghost leading you into the beyond, and Muth's character makes that almost impossible. Sep 27, 2018 Full Review Belinda Acosta Austin Chronicle What is a soul, and where does it go once the body dies? Does fate exist, and if so, is it inalterable? Dead Like Me deals with these and other coffeehouse musings with a wry touch. Sep 27, 2018 Full Review Phil Gallo Variety It's frisky, freaky and funny in the writing; boasts a fiercely credible performance from Mandy Patinkin; and introduces the splendid Ellen Muth in her first starring role. Sep 27, 2018 Full Review MaryAnn Johanson Flick Filosopher Manages to hit every imaginable wrong note along the way. Sep 27, 2018 Full Review Lewis Whittington culturevulture.net There's an old saying that goes "the dead can't hurt you," but in the case of the new Showtime series Dead Like Me they certainly have the power to bore you to death. Sep 27, 2018 Full Review Cynthia Fuchs PopMatters Punctuated by such dry self-reflections, by George and her fellow Reapers, as well as moments that are oddly poignant or philosophical, concerning the extent of human hubris and the limits of human understanding.
