Where to buy a camera battery.

The battery I'm after is $89AUD in Australia.

Any recommendations on where to buy a Sony NP-FG1 (G-Series) Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery in Hong Kong?

TIA.

Broardway, Fortress, or other reputable chain. (See FAQ's for where not to buy.) These have websites where you MIGHT be able to access prices.

@Vanessa_S1977, a good list from @Guerilla+Surgeon, and of course Sony shop itself.

Your type of batter is normally for Sony W&H series cameras.

In HK, this battery sold at Sony store is HKD290.00(that is around AUD35.00).

It's really interesting how expensive some batteries are. But really cheap in HK. I bought a card of 20 button type for the same price of 1 here - and it was cheaper to buy a toy and take the batteries out and use them than buy batteries for my small torch.

@Guerilla+Surgeon, yep, batteries for camera (and also smartphone) can be rather expensive.

There are cheap and expensive batteries claiming same voltage(mAh) discharge, but if not careful particularly for camera and smartphones, they do not hold the charge well, and if one recharges on few cycles, the batteries will get "pregnant".

There are plentiful variations of the button type batteries, and even the good one-"Renata" are copied very well, but never can hold the charge well.

These rechargeable batteries works on a electrical loop cycles.

When you buy such factories, keep in mind you will have a choice of original branded vs generics. Generics are usually quite a bit cheaper but they have less capacity.

Fortress, Broadway, Chung Yuen, Gome, CMK are all good choices. You can also try the shops at Wan Chai Computing Centre or other reputable stores like DCFever.

I like a store called "Cam2" in Shamshuipo (right downstairs at the Golden Computer Centre). Right at a MTR station exit D2.

Maybe give them a call and see if they have the battery that you are looking for and quote you a price. They speak some English I think.

Just 2 blocks away (on the other side of Cheung Sha Wan Road), there is "Apliu Street". The whole street (about 3 blocks' stretch) is full of small electronic stalls. About half a dozen, at least, sell all kinds of batteries. Some are cell phone batteries.

Cam2 also has shops at Wan Chai Computer Centre. The one outside (across from the entrance of the Computer Centre) is slightly more expensive than the one upstairs a the second floor. They should be a reputable store. I was looking at the camera prices yesterday and they were about 5% cheaper than the large chains.

Another vote for Cam2. My husband bought his camera from there and it was cheaper than the other places we checked out.

For many aftermarket batteries, reduced capacity is the least of your problems. As stated above, many such batteries would swell when overcharged (left in charger for too long) and won't fit inside the camera anymore. Reason they swell up is due to gas build-up and they are missing the expensive venting mechanism. You can imagine what could happen in worst case scenario. This include some local "brand name" replacement batteries.
