I am considering Canon EOS 60D camera . Not a full priced chain store, slightly cheaper than RRP?

I heard something along the lines of Tin Cheung ?

There are quite a few threads on here about buying electronics (and cameras in particular) in Hong Kong. The general consensus seems to be that you need to know what you want, how much it should be and what should come in the package. It is recommended you don't go to a smaller independant store, definitely don't go to anywhere along Nathan Rd or similar and the best idea is to buy from the larger chain stores.

With cameras, I have found that most can be found in Australia at a very similar price from your local discount store when you get the discounts. Plus you get local warranty.

Hong Kong consumer laws are not very strong for shoppers.

@EmilyCcc, with a DSLR camera-one cannot be saying I am looking for this-then you check on websites, and say..hey HK is cheaper- but am sure as @HK71 is advising- be sure of the type of lens that you are getting(for at least a apple to apple comparison), then do not take for granted hey I am buying from a reputable shop in the likes of Bing Lee,Harvey Norman or Domayne (in HK- will be Broadway, Fortress) and accessories should come as standard- always check- lens hood, lens cover, battery, SD card size etc.

And I have learnt whilst still in Melbourne now, pick up the Sunday papers and look at those adverts ,and if you find the camera you need to buy, even go to these shops and ask them to price match.

Then of course, trawling http://digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/

for bench marking of prices and service.

And of course, remember to keep your receipt (aka Tax Invoice) handy when you leave Australia, if your total purchase is over $300(which in this case is definite yes), you can claim back the GST on your departure. So that 1/11th together with Australia local warranty (particularly on the lens) could turn out to be a better proportion ..and buying it back home gives you the time on that learning curve to fiddle and play with the mode and photo shooting behaviour..rather than buying in HK,then going through this mode..though with digital there is delete-retake--but every seconds of delete-retake goes towards your holiday time.

And I still remember- downtown duty free there is a store under the Strand Arcade – off Pitt St Mall in the city centre- though that was few years back-so you are better to know if there are still there.

Another option is to jump on a train (7 mins) out to Westfields at Bondi Junction. You can compare prices at the likes of JB Hi Fi, Harvey Norman, D*ck Smith, Bing Lee, Digital City and Paxtons – all close-by in the same centre.

Okay, you may have found this, though for convenience:-

I don't know about prices in Australia. I was looking at camera a couple of months ago and compared various stores. The best priced reliable store selling authentic goods is probably DCFever, followed by by Cam2. Both have websites online so you can search for their store locations. It is likely that paying cash will be cheaper than using a credit card. Also, if there are accessories or "gifts" that you don't need, tell them so and they could very well reduce the price further.

Still, do your homework and if prices are comparable to home, then there is no reason to buy overseas.

We like Wing Sing in Mongkok for camera body and lens purchases.
