  Where is the Top Gun-esque soundtrack packed with wall-to-wall bangers??? This desperately needs its own "Take My Breath Away" or "Danger Zone." If anything "Danger Zone" makes MORE sense in this movie because cars.

  Rides the perfect line of genuinely rousing and sentimental about the sport/craft while still making room for how the industry that has formed around it is poisonous. Tom legit one of the greatest movie stars and Tony was too good for us. Makes you viscerally feel every physical impact on the screen as well as every corny dramatic beat whether you want to or not. Absolutely lost it when Rooker and Cruise started racing in the wheelchairs. Come back to the soundtrack any time I want to get pumped up. Rubbin' is racin'!!!!

  Top Gun with cars!

  Extremely ridiculous & nothing in this movie makes sense (the lead character name is Cole Trickle) but Days of Thunder is so much fun on almost meta level and i think it works if you don't take the whole thing too seriously. Plus Tony Scott shot the hell out of the racing scenes. I honestly have never seen Robert Duvall this happy & crazy on-screen.
  You can tell while watching only that they started shooting without a finished script and scenes were written the day of filming. I read during one driving sequence, Tom Cruise actually had to read his lines off cue cards attached to his windshield, which resulted in a car accident.

  yes, it's a TOP GUN rehash, but what it lacks in sheer tech-fetish awesomeness is made up for by an uncommonly dark look (for a production clearly benefiting of NASCAR's cooperation) at autoracing's economic structure and the physical risk that places on drivers, necessitated by design in order to justify the dramatic stakes.

  there’s a scene where robert duvall gently caresses and gives a motivational speech to a race car and then the camera cuts to what I assume to be some type of car fluid leak on the ground which robert duvall looks at with a disappointed expression and says “this is not the kind of answer I’m looking for from you,” and the overt sexual nature of the scene just makes me think robert duvall made that car ejaculate and I really and truly wish I was making this up.

  An absurd nearly 2hr-long NASCAR commercial that makes as much sense as a 7-year old arranging high-velocity accidents between die-cast metal cars which already have flames painted on them whilst making excitable 'explosion' vocalizations. Days Of Thunder is also essentially a land-based Top Gun minus the military and Val Kilmer but with Michael Rooker and An Endless Dawn Chorus Of Dopplered Engine Harmonics And Metal-On-Metal Carnage Prominently Featuring Sponsor Logos. This makes for not-insubstantial differences. Because you don't have call signs, you have to give your characters insane names like Cole Trickle, Russ Wheeler and my favorite, Rowdy Burns.   My first viewing in at least 25 years. I definitely saw this at Robbie Malone’s sleepover birthday party in the early winter of 1991. I don’t remember if I had seen Top Gun at this point, but I doubt it. Either way, I wasn’t impressed. If I had to guess, I’ve probably seen this one other time, although I might have just watched bits and pieces so often on cable that I think I did. Regardless, I always remembered that Tom Cruise played Cole Trickle. You don’t forget a name like that.

  Sure, it may be a worse rehash of Top Gun but Tony Scott still directs with such much electricity that by time we reach Daytona, I’m ready to wear a cutoff tee and crack open a PBR.
