Luke Woodbury III, age 79, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 after a short but hard fought battle with cancer. He was born March 5, 1943 in Lenoir to the late Luke Woodbury Jr. and Frances Hoskins Woodbury. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousin Bruce Johnston.
After graduating from Lenoir High School in 1961, he furthered his education at Mars Hill College and Wake Forest University. After his father’s death, he returned to Lenoir to run Woodbury Lumber and Building Supply, which he did until 2013. Luke was an animal lover his entire life, always taking in dogs and cats in need. He was an avid horseman, riding, and showing horses for many years.
Those left to cherish his memory is one sister, Frances Woodbury Frye and husband Les, one niece Elizabeth Frye Burnworth and husband Craig; one nephew Charlie Frye and wife Susan; three great nieces, Gwyneth Frye, Nina Burnworth, Grace Terry; two great nephews, Beau Burnworth, Walker Terry; four cousins, Vicki Johnston Havens, Dallas Greer, Peggy Johnston Evans, and Keith Johnston.
Graveside services will be Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Bellview Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. with Dr. David Smith officiating.
