Emma Stone is proving two Oscars and being an Emmy hopeful isn’t a curse by any means.

The “Poor Things” Academy Award winner is already starring in Yorgos Lanthimos’ follow-up “Kinds of Kindness,” which will debut at Cannes 2024, and she’s also attached to Lanthimos’ upcoming satirical film “Save the Green Planet,” a remake of the Korean comedy of the same name. But Stone has yet another project in the works too: leading an untitled Universal feature directed by her real-life husband.

Stone is in talks to star in the movie that would be directed by Dave McCary, who is also in talks, an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire. The two most recently worked together as executive producers on the Showtime series “The Curse.” Stone and McCary together work under their production banner Fruit Tree.

The Universal film originated as a spec script penned by Patrick Kang and Michael Levin (“Young Rock”). Plot details are being kept under wraps.

Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Dan Levine will produce the film through their 21 Laps banner. Michael H. Weber, the Oscar-nominated co-writer of “The Disaster Artist,” will also produce, and he was just revealed to be writing the screenplay for a potential Chris Farley biopic. Stone, director McCary, and Ali Herting are also all in talks to produce through Fruit Tree.

McCary has previously directed indie “Brigsby Bear” following his five-season stint at “SNL” as a writer/director for the sketch series. Recently, McCary produced Sundance breakout film “A Real Pain” and A24’s “Problemista.” In 2019, he executive produced and directed the HBO special “My Favorite Shapes” by “Problemista” writer/director/star Julio Torres.

Universal’s Senior Executive Vice President of Production Development Erik Baiers and Creative Executive Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project on behalf of the Studio.

McCary and Stone met on “SNL” in December 2016 and later got married in 2020. This is the first project with McCary directing Stone and his second feature film. Their shared production banner Fruit Tree was launched in 2020.

Stone thanked McCary onstage while accepting her 2024 Golden Globe Award for “Poor Things,” saying, “Dave, I have to start with you really quickly. I love you so much. Thank you for everything.”
