SPRINGFIELD, IL (WTAX) – A Black businessman is telling the Springfield City Council it’s much easier to go into business if you’re white.

“Unless we make an intentional purposeful step to making finance companies locally step up to the plate, you will continue to see what you see in this city: definite segregation,” Robert Frazier of All-in-One told the city council.

Springfield’s community relations director, Ethan Posey, responded.

“I know we’re not where we need to be, and I know there has been a lot of history throughout Springfield where the playing field is not level,” said Posey. “But we are striving and moving forward, I feel, at a greater pace than we have in the past.”

Frazier said not only is he in business, he is a philanthropist through his laundromat.

“The ‘Soap-to-Hope Challenge‘ reached a milestone at over 40-950 loads for free for citizens to get their laundry clean

“It is a significant program. We do not have any support.”
