Out of all the film festivals held throughout the world, Toronto is lucky to host one of the largest. Needless to say, it is a great occasion to see your favourite celebs. In fact, TIFF was initially meant to be named the Festival of the Festivals and was supposed to screen the films which won in other festivals across the world. It was obviously destined to become one of the largest events of the film industry. It's held annually for 11 days in mid-September.
TIFF key dates are the days when packages and tickets go on sale, and when the programme is announced. The official film schedule is usually announced in late August, while tickets for Patrons, TIFF Insiders, and TIFF Members, and the general public are available from the last days of August or early September until the festival opening. Tickets sell out quickly, so try to buy them on the first possible date.
Lining up has long been a part of TIFF experience. To shorten your queuing time you should buy your tickets in advance. Still, you'll have to wait along with other ticket holders to get into the venues. Assigned seating is available for screenings only at the Visa Screening Room at the Princess of Wales Theatre, Winter Garden, Elgin, and at Roy Thomson Hall. To get your preferred seat at a general admission venue, the best time to show up an hour before the screening start time. Audiences are let in half an hour prior to the screening.
Also, every year, organisers give an opportunity to the young audiences to enjoy the TIFF Kids International Film Festival featuring animated films and movies with and about kids. The TIFF Kids programme usually runs in March.
