Reminder: The code to the crate at the first hideout is meant to be early backer exclusive, so please don't drop that off here.

so... no news about any of the chests? I'm particularly interested in Silent Wood's Wolfman's chests. :)

All the notes and various letters and things you pick up have numbers on them. Just figure from there. Takes a while but it is all there.

Great strategy guide we got here thanks to everyone that helped.

That's a very good thing, to encourage us exploring.

@MasterofBacon and Gakuen Babysitter: Sorry, but that can't be rigth. For one, if the clues for the codes are hidden in the papers, those always have the same numbers (since they are pictures and not RNG). On the other hand, if the codes are RNG, those would be the only RNG codes in the game, and exploration is meaningless, since you'll never find clues for them (unless you murder the wolfman, who is the only one that would know those codes and will keep them on himself, and that isn't the case). There is a point where you fight the wolfman if you made the choices that go that way, close to the end of the game, but by then, the contents of those Silent Forest chests are probably useless.

No. The most likely scenario is no one found the codes and those chest remain closed for everyone, or someone found the codes and didn't share it (perhaps because he/she didn't know about this thread).

Most of the codes are RNG, and can only be found by finding the notes that belong to them.
The codes are different every playthrough, and the codes on the notes change to reflect that.

Technology has advanced enough so that when you've got a random code, the note that comes with it tells the appropriate code.

And yes, some of them are DEFINETLY RNG, like the crates in Wolfman's Camp in Silent Woods, which can only be opened by guessing every code from 0000 to 9999.

I don't think you have to guess at the Wolfman's crates lock codes because if I remember correctly if you do something for him he will give you the codes.

Nope. The codes are meant as easter eggs for anyone who digs through the game files and/or spends three hours of their life guessing random combinations.

I just find that ,when you start a new game, the code changes. So everyone's codes are different.

Although everyone's codes are different, but the codes about plots are same. For example the door connects dry meadow and silent forest is 3333. Everytime you play a new one, code is the same . So i think the wolf's crates also have a same code.
Anyway, you can cheat it , open
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\LocalLow\Acid Wizard Studio\Darkwood\
You will see 5 pieces prof files go to the profile folder you are currently playing .Edit the sav.dat file with notepad. (Wait for five minutes.)Type "combination" in the search bar.you'll probably catch some data there. Something likes
""padlS":{"combination":"1229","currentCombination":"4563","locked":true}}"
So, if you see the code on game's crates or door is 4563, the right code is 1229 now.
If you change "true" to "false",you can open it with no code. But i think you'd better not do it like this.Otherwise there may be errors.

PS:My English is poor,Don't make fun of me.I'm chinese.

@Cat'fate, that was an awesome piece of information, thanks for sharing it. :)

To find that location @Cat'fate was mentioning, I had to chuck it in windows explorer search (in case anyone was finding the location difficult to find).

I personally searched for Acid Wizard Studio.

@FireNative
Going off memory here so may miss a bit. Might as well include some locked doors and some easy to miss unlocked chests. Note that a lot of them are randomized each playthrough!

1st area
•Hideout chest: Backer secret :3
•2 locked doors between 1st and 2nd area: 3333 Found on note in locked room.
•Not locked, but there is a hidden safe under the sofa in the room with the sofa in the burnt out house with the dogs.
•Locked door in wedding: Random. Not a chest obv, but has a code. Need to go to wedding, try open locked door. Spend a few nights in 1st hideout. Answer door knock at night to find an invite with the code on the ground.
•Not a chest, but notable loot is in the underground passage. Need a fully repaired shovel. Use on the wall to the left of the entrance 2x BEFORE CHECKING THE LOCKED DOOR. Contains really nice gun stuff for early game.

2nd area
•Hideout chest: Key is from a house with slightly hidden back entrance. Located somewhere on edge of map, usually somewhat near village entrance.
•Chest in village barn: Random. Need madman note 1 and 2. One near the chest and one on corpse near the sow (possible to grab quickly without killing sow with armor+painkiller)
•Wolfman chests: Not supposed to be opened, but possible to find code. Look at post above by Cat'fate. Heard it contains a bunch of ammo and weapons, but that ruins the fun.
•Unlocked chest in back of truck with chomper. I've missed this a bunch of times when I first played.

3rd Area
•Church code: Random. Need to get a dream event involving the church, then visit.
•Creepy House: No code, but locked. You have to follow the Musician's story line to access.
•Train car: Random. Need to get to doc's house and open the safe (code is on the floor, also random)

4th Area
•Hideout metal door: I've never actually managed to open this, maybe due to a glitch, but the Musician needs to be alive. He will camp out in there.
•Old shed: 1245 (hint is in the nursery rhyme the kids say)
•Mushroom house chest: 1975 . Not sure how to get this code.
•Locked house with welcome mat: No code, but need's key from mushroom glade.
•Locked chest in Village: 2531. Look at the lottery ticket's scratched off #s
•Unlocked chest in village behind a barricaded window leading to a single small room. Easy to miss.
•Unlocked chest in hole shortcut building, hard to see, against the wall in the "back yard" of the house
