History has not been kind to She's All That, and with good reason. The '90s rom-com is full of damaging tropes and stereotypes, and no matter how compelling its star Rachael Leigh Cook is, those themes are hard to ignore.

This is why news of a contemporary remake, with contemporary sensibilities, is both exciting and potentially full of pitfalls. The new version is a gender-swapped remake, entitled He's All That.

But as we know, gender-swapping does not necessarily a good movie make. So, with this caution in mind, what do we know about the remake?

He's All That plot: What is the story of He's All That?

It is, effectively, the same as She's All That, but with the gender roles swapped. The story will follow an influencer, Padget, who accepts a challenge to turn the school's biggest loser, Cameron, into prom king.

Shenanigans will likely ensue, but if He's All That wants to avoid the poor messaging of She's All That (must fit in!) there's likely going to be a big epiphany in which everyone realises they're beautiful inside and out just as they are.

He's All That cast: Who stars in He's All That?

The good news for fans of the original is that two of its lead stars are back. However, as He's All That is a remake and not a long-delayed sequel, they will be playing totally new characters.

Rachael Leigh Cook stars as Anna Sawyer, the mum of the new lead, Addison Rae. Rae, a TikTok star in her debut film role, plays Padget Sawyer, the aforementioned influencer tasked with giving Cameron a makeover. According to Deadline, Rae is a key reason why the remake took off.

She's All That original castmate Matthew Lillard is also in He's All That, though his role remains under wraps. Cobra Kai's Tanner Buchanan stars as Cameron Kweller. Also joining the cast are Madison Pettis (American Pie Presents: Girls' Rules), Peyton Meyer (Girl Meets World), Isabella Crovetti (Colony), Annie Jacob and Myra Molloy.

Classic '90s director Mark Waters (of Mean Girls and Freaky Friday fame) will direct, with She's All That's original writer R Lee Fleming Jr set to pen the screenplay.

Yes, you read that right, the movie will debut on Netflix which is exciting for everyone, and now we know that the movie will debut on August 27.

Netflix announced the movie on Twitter, writing: "What is this, some sort of dork outreach program? HE'S ALL THAT, a gender-flipped reimagining of the 1999 teen classic, is coming to Netflix!"

He's All That trailer: When will the trailer be out online?

We have no idea. However, knowing Netflix, keeping an eye on its Twitter, and the movie's stars' social media accounts (TikTok everyone!) is a good place to be kept updated.

Or, you know, here, since we'll be doing all that work for you.

He's All That will be available on Netflix on August 27.
