Almost a year after the arrival of the first trailer, Warner Bros. Pictures has released the second official trailer for acclaimed filmmaker Denis Villeneuve’s new big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic novel “Dune,” which arrives in theaters and on HBO Max on October 22.
The first of two proposed films based on the first book, the story takes place in the distant future and follows Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) whose noble family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis.
As the only planet capable of producing the high-value resource known as the spice blend that enables space travel, control of Arrakis is highly contested among noble families.
When the Atreids are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as a betrayed Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control over Arrakis.
Also on the bill are Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster and Stephen McKinley Henderson.
The trailer follows an extended IMAX preview of the film this week, which showed the film’s first ten minutes to rave reviews. Reports on this extended preview confirm a key change from the previous two screen adaptations – the voiceover for the opening show is done by the character of Chani (Zendaya) rather than Princess Irulan.
