Like many of her counterparts in New York City this week, makeup artist Gucci Westman was preaching individuality backstage at Rag & Bone tonight, crafting luminous skin to make natural stunners like Vanessa Moody and Frederikke Sofie look like “the best versions of themselves.” And they did. If that beauty minimalism called to mind the signature look of another recognizable industry face—supermodel Daria Werbowy—it was no accident.

“Who doesn’t want to look like her?” Westman asked, producing a photo of Werbowy looking characteristically glowy, her skin subtly sculpted and her hair swooped to the side. Which is to say, you’d be hard pressed to find a living, breathing woman who hasn’t lusted after @dotwillow’s enviable complexion, which is frequently showcased on her popular Instagram feed. And while her cheekbones and almond-shaped eyes are the product of some pretty exceptional DNA, Westman did put together a pretty good protocol for Daria-like skin.

It starts with a good moisturizer, like SK-II RNA Power Radical New Age Cream, which Westman was using to prep the cheeks, forehead, and chin backstage. Then, swirling a fluffy eyeshadow brush over a trio of powder blushes in shades of burnt orange, taupe, and terracotta, Westman multitasked her movements over eyelids and cheeks, creating a barely perceptible monochrome contour that added a sheer freshness to the high planes of the face.

Brows were brushed up and filled in with pencils, rather than gels or powders—“I like to draw in little hairs; it looks more real that way,” says Westman—and cheekbones were dotted with a cream illuminator to pick up the light ever so slightly. For that perfect nude, just-bitten Daria-at-the-beach (or on a mountain top; or on a sailboat; or in a photo studio) burnished-ness, Westman layered Omorovicza Perfecting Lip Balm with MAC Lipliner in Spice, the ultimate fleshy pink, which she topped with its muted cream Lip Erase. Now here’s to the best kind of New York Fashion Week makeup trick—looking like the best version of yourself.
