Danny Dyer is most famous for his roles in British films such as Mean Machine, The Football factory and most recently as Mick Carter on EastEnders, but in June 2018, he’s in the news not because he is an actor, but rather because he’s a father.

The hardman of British TV has been mocked mercilessly over the fact that his daughter, Dani Dyer, is taking part in ITV2’s raunchy reality show Love Island.

He and Phillip Schofield had a mock bust-up at the 2018 British Soap Awards over it, and Twitter wasn’t holding back when the first episode of series 4 was broadcast, with some users joking that Dyer wouldn’t be happy once he actually sees his daughter on the show.

Here is all you need to know about Danny Dyer, including his net worth, films, and daughter Dani Dyer.

Who is Danny Dyer?

Danny Dyer was born in Canning Town, London, on July 24, 1977. He described his father as a ‘grafter’ and mother as a housewife.

As a child, Dyer discovered that his father had a secret second family, for which he walked out on Dyer and his when the actor was nine-years-old.

Dyer fell in love with acting at an early age and attended a Sunday drama club in Kentish town as a boy.

An agent saw something in the young Londoner when he was 14. At the same time Dyer started going out with Joanne Mas, who would fall pregnant five years later, spurring Dyer on to make it as an actor.

In-between his early auditions, Dyer worked on a skip for extra money.

‘I've total respect for labourers,’ he told the Independent in 2011. ‘But I'm not a nine-to-five kind of person. And if you're a labourer, you're doing all the menial jobs, like sweeping sawdust. I hated it. So every audition I went to at that time I treated it as my last.’

Dyer appeared in episodes of British shows such as A Touch of Frost and Soldier Soldier during the mid 1990s.

In 1999, Dyer got a role in the film Human Traffic and then landed a part in a Harold Pinter play, Celebration, the playwright’s first in 15 years.

Dyer and Pinter became firm friends, and the actor appeared in three of his plays. The actor said the fact that he had no idea who the Nobel prize-winning playwright helped.

Dyer also formed a productive, if not critically well-received, relationship with the director Nick Love, starring in four of his films: Goodbye Charlie Bright, The Football Factory, The Business and Outlaw.

The Guardian’s Stuart Heritage described the partnership as the ‘Scorsese and De Niro of terrible, low-budget, wideboy crime flicks.'

These films led to Dyer playing up to a ‘hardman Cockney’ image and try his hand at presenting, fronting shows such as The Real Football factories, The Real Football Factories International and Danny Dyer’s Deadliest Men.

In 2012, Dyer starred in the film Run for Your Wife, which made just £747 at the box office on a budget of £900,000.

In 2017, it was reported that Dyer had a six-week affair with his co-star and former Girls Aloud member Sarah Harding during filming.

In 2013, Dyer joined long-running BBC soap EastEnders, as Mick Carter, the new owner of the Queen Vic pub.

The role came just four years after Dyer said he would only join the show when he was ‘fat, bald and 50’.

In a 2016 episode of Who Do You Think You Are, Danny Dyer found out that he was a direct descendant of two kings of England and related to Thomas Cromwell.

Danny Dyer is married to long-term partner Joanne Mas and the couple have three children together.

Danny Dyer’s daughter Dani is on Love Island

Danny Dyer’s 21-year-old daughter Dani is currently appearing on the ITV show, Love Island.

At the end of May, Dani revealed that her father gave her his 'blessing for her to have sex on the show', after initially not wanting her to appear on the raunchy show.

'My dad has given his blessing to have sex, but I won't,’ she told the Sun.

'He said that because he wants to put me at ease.

'He is so laid back in everything I do, he said, "Whatever you want to do, go do it" and I’m like "ah thanks Dad".'

In the first episode of Love Island series 4, Dani paired up with pen salesman Jack, but not before Adam tried a getting to know you move on her.

What is Danny Dyer’s net worth?

Danny Dyer’s net worth is estimated to be £3.7m, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

The actor’s wealth is bolstered by a large salary from his EastEnders work. It is reported that Dyer is the show’s highest earner, bringing in £400,000 a year.

As well as his acting work, Dyer has appeared in adverts such as the 1994 Coca Cola ad, lent his vocals to two Grand Theft Auto games and published an autobiography, Straight Up: My Autobiography.
