It doesn’t take a visual assistant to see the chemistry between The CW‘s newest romantic leads.

Sight Unseen follows Tess Avery (Dolly Lewis), a Vancouver-based homicide detective who steps away from the job when her vision loss nearly costs her partner (The Originals’ Daniel Gillies) his life. Tess continues to help the police department solve crimes with an assist from Sunny (Agam Darshi), an agoraphobic woman in New York City who serves as Tess’ eyes — while also providing some A+ commentary on Tess’ life.

Sorry, did we forget to mention that, in addition to being former partners on the force, Tess and Jake are also former partners… in the bedroom?

“There’s definitely still residual chemistry there, which is difficult,” Gillies tells TVLine of Jake and Tess’ complicated personal and professional dynamic. “First of all, Dolly is just a sparkling, beautiful, amazing person. And as Tess, she’s imbued with all of this innovation and skill and mental dexterity. And she’s funny as s–t! I can certainly see why [Jake is] drawn to her.”

TVLine has an exclusive sneak peek of Wednesday’s second episode (9/8c) in which Tess literally runs into Jake at the hospital, where he confronts her about the real reason she quit her job. The tension between the two is palpable, as evidenced by Sunny’s visceral reaction as she watches the situation unfold from the comfort of her apartment.

And Jake’s feelings for Tess are only becoming stronger. As Gillies explains, “the more Tess isn’t overwhelmed by her new condition, the more creative she becomes in dealing with the situation — she’s only becoming more attractive to Jake. The problem is that these things probably ought to be mutually exclusive. They need to be.”
