Matt Damon and his family recently escaped the wintry United States for another sunny getaway Down Under.

But it was Matt's wife Luciana Barroso, 43, who brought the heat in a string bikini while the couple and their children soaked up the rays at Byron Bay on Thursday. 

Hitting the sands of the popular New South Wales enclave, the Argentinean interior designer flaunted her washboard abs and athletic figure in a blue two-piece.

While the mother-of-three showcased her stunning physique, the Good Will Hunting star, 48 kept his buff frame under wraps in a black print T-shirt.

The A-list stars' daughters, Isabella, 12 and Gia, 10 appeared to follow their father's examples, wearing matching rash vests to cover up from the harsh summer rays.

Byron Bay has become Matt and Luciana's second home with the family often frequenting the coastal town to spend time with Chris Hemsworth and his brood.

Last year, the Damons rented a $4 million Byron Bay home for four months.

And last year, the Thor star fuelled speculation the couple were planning to settle in Australia permanently. 

Speaking to entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins on Channel Nine's Today Extra in June, Chris, 35, said: 'He [Matt] was in love with this country  

But despite reports, the Hollywood star began the new year by snapping up an expensive Brooklyn apartment. 

It was reported last month by the New York Times that Matt and Luciana had bought the property for a record-breaking US$16.7million (AUD$23.7million), making it the most expensive apartment in the borough.
