LANGDON, N.D. — The North Dakota Highway Patrol has released the name of the man who died in a head-on collision that happened about one mile east of Langdon on Saturday, March 23.

A release from the Highway Patrol said Ryan Wells, 26, of Langdon, was driving westbound on State Highway 5 at about 9:45 p.m. when his car entered the eastbound lanes of traffic and struck a pickup. He suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

The driver of the pickup, Susan Sossamon, 75, and a passenger in the pickup, Dale Baldwin, 80, both of Osnabrock, N.D., were taken to Langdon Prairie Health with serious injuries, according to a prior release from the Highway Patrol. Their conditions were not updated in the new report.

All of the parties involved in the crash were wearing their seat belts. The state patrol is still investigating the crash.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
