John SiglerStaff WriterHere's another pre-draft visit for the New Orleans Saints, per Saints News Network's John Hendrix. Former Iowa and Michigan tight end Erick All made an official visit to the team headquarters in Metairie recently, one of 30 such visits the team is allowed to conduct before t he 2024 NFL draft. He's a good football player. All transferred to Iowa after a four-year run with Michigan was interrupted by back surgery.
John SiglerStaff WriterYou won't see Rico Payton listed in many 2024 mock drafts. Not in the first round, maybe not even in the seventh. But he's an intriguing cornerback prospect, and the Pittsburgh State product made an official visit to the New Orleans Saints headquarters, per Saints News Network's John Hendrix. Payton is an interesting prospect.
John SiglerStaff WriterThe New Orleans Saints will kick off their offseason workout program on Monday, and they'll do so with a little more depth at cornerback. Saints News Network's John Hendrix reported that the Saints are bringing back Shemar Jean-Charles, which was confirmed by NewOrleans.Football's Mike Triplett and Nola.com's Matt Paras. The deal isn't signed just yet, but it's only a matter of time before it's pushed over the finish line.
Darrion GrayStaff WriterNFL.com's Nick Shook may be one of the few members of the media who believes the New Orleans Saints aren't dead in the water in 2024. There has been a common opinion the Saints need to blow it up in preparation for 2025. Shook, on the other hand, feels the Saints need to correct a crucial bad habit: inconsistency. The Around the NFL writer took a look at the current landscape of the NFC, including big free agency additions and departures.
John SiglerStaff WriterThis is small potatoes as far as offseason drama goes. But it's backup quarterback Kellen Mond, not star wideout Chris Olave, listed in the No. 2 jersey for the New Orleans Saints on the team's official website. Olave wore No. 2 in college at Ohio State and had fueled speculation that he could switch back to it after the number became available; Jameis Winston had already claimed it when Olave was drafted by the Saints in 2022.
John SiglerStaff WriterThe NFL is a cold business. Michael Thomas caught more passes than anyone in New Orleans Saints franchise history not named Marques Colston, but it's taken the team less than a month to reissue his jersey number. According to the Saints' official website, newly-signed wideout Equanimeous St. Brown will be wearing No. 13. While the Saints didn't owe it to Thomas to make that number off-limits (as they've done with Nos.
John SiglerStaff WriterExpectations are higher for Jake Haener in Year 2 with the New Orleans Saints. It was fine for him to ride the bench as a game-day inactive last year; everyone knew that Jameis Winston was ahead of him on the depth chart as the top backup behind Derek Carr. But he's had a year to pick up the playbook and hone his craft, and there won't be any excuses if Haener doesn't show marked improvement in 2024.
John SiglerStaff WriterKellen Mond is going to find a lot of friendly faces when he steps into the New Orleans Saints locker room. Beyond the coaches he's worked with before like Klint Kubiak and Andrew Janocko, he's also reuniting with former teammates. Both of the centers he worked with in high school and at the college level are going to be blocking for him again in New Orleans.
Hailey Van Lith sent an initial shock within the LSU women's basketball program two weeks ago, when she announced that she would transfer out of the program instead of declaring for the WNBA draft. Neither Van Lith nor the program had spoken about the move until Thursday, when Tigers coach Kim Mulkey addressed her point guard's departure at the team's end-of-season celebration event. Van Lith has still not made an announcement or post on her departure from LSU.
