SPDC Rescue UK - Giving abandoned dogs the chance of a loving forever home

Giving abandoned dogs the chance of a loving forever home

Giving abandoned dogs the chance of a loving forever home

We rescue dogs from the streets and killing pounds of Cyprus and find them new homes in the UK and Europe.

SPDC or Saving Pound Dogs Cyprus is a charitable, non-profit organisation in Cyprus, which is dedicated to rescuing and rehoming stray dogs to loving homes in the UK and across Europe.

We have a ‘no-kill’ policy and do not practice euthanasia. Rehabilitation is a big part of our philosophy; we believe that no case is hopeless and our guiding principle is that every dog should be given the chance to find a forever home.

SPDC Rescue UK is the UK registered charity that raises funds to support the running costs of the Cyprus sanctuary, the care of the dogs in Limassol and also our foster dogs already in the UK. The UK Charity team arranges adoptions and helps to prepare the paperwork for dogs due to fly to their forever home.

We offer support to the new homes all the way through the process and beyond. SPDC are always here to offer support and help even after your dog has been adopted.

All SPDC dogs have Rescue Back Up for life.

Please support us

SPDC is ENTIRELY dependent on donations!

Dogs continue to be abandoned and abused and without our intervention, hundreds of dogs would be euthanized.

With your help, we can rescue more dogs from kill pounds, feed them, strengthen them and find them loving homes. None of what we do would be possible without the donations and support that we receive.

Thank you.

What SPDC Does

SPDC rescues a large number of dogs from different municipal pounds, especially those on euthanasia lists, as well as stray dogs found by the public. In accordance with Cypriot law, if no owner is found within 15 days, these dogs are at risk of being euthanised.

We provide the dogs with medical care, food and shelter and we make every effort to find them a new home. Rehoming dogs is not just about finding a home; we pride ourselves on matching the right dog to the right home.

Some dogs have suffered abuse and need to be rehabilitated until they can learn to trust people again. With patient, loving care, even the most broken spirit can be restored. We are thankful that many of our most traumatised dogs are now leading happy lives in their new homes.

Adoption

SPDC’s aim is to find loving, safe and happy homes for all our rescued dogs. We have no set criteria for adoptive homes (unlike many rescues especially in the UK). We assess every home on its individual merits.

Fostering

Fostering is an important part of helping dogs find their forever homes. It teaches the dog how to become a family member and allows dogs stuck in the pound to start their journey to their forever home.

Donating

SPDC is run exclusively by unpaid volunteers and is totally dependant on donations. Every month we have to raise funds to pay the sanctuary rent, feed the dogs, pay the vet care of the sick dogs, and treat the dogs for worms and ticks. Also the cleaning materials, the sewage tank and skip emptying: the list is endless.

One-off donations are much appreciated and no amount is too small. Regular donations are our lifeline. All donations go straight to helping the dogs. For more information of how your donation can help click the button below, and THANK YOU!
