Tips on Naming Your Pup
When naming your new family member, there are a number of considerations. Ultimately, you need to figure out which name clicks and resonates with you the most. This is an important decision for your new family member. You may even want to pick several names and see which one grows on you.
Avoid Brand Names
While there may be a temptation to name a young doggy Chanel or Gucci, these types of names are usually best avoided. Not only do trends change, but naming your dog after these brands may appear tacky. In addition, naming a dog after a brand means that if the brand does something you don't like, you'll be reminded every time you say your dog's name. People will also assume that you are a huge fan of whatever brand you select.
Avoid Human Names
Although I have included many human names here, calling your dog a human name may create some odd situations. For example, if you were to meet a new person and they have the same name as your dog. While you didn’t mean to insult them, they may take offense automatically. If you do name your dog a human name, consider using the shortened or nicknamed version. Nicknames are not just for regular human names though.
Consider Nicknames
Don't be afraid to give her a long name, as longer names can easily be shortened to cute nicknames. This allows for the pup's name to change as they grow. For example, adding "Madam" or "Princess" before their regular name can be fairly cute. In addition, you can add a description to this, so putting in "the pampered" or "the ruler of the couch".
Think About Cute Rhymes/Multiple Words
A name can be multiple words, especially when they rhyme. Multiple words can also show off the characteristics of your pet. For example, Shiloh the Shy or Bubble Cuddles show both a rhyming structure and a characteristic. If a two-part name doesn't feel right, you can also add an additional surname, such as Miss or Princess. That could extend a potential name to Princess Bubble Cuddles (likes to cuddle and/or catch bubbles with her mouth).
