Crystal Palace might have to battle one of La Liga’s biggest teams this summer to acquire a 19-year-old centre-back.
Marc Guehi is a player expected to depart Selhurst Park this summer as he’s got multiple suitors in the Premier League.
If sold, he’d fetch a significant amount for Crystal Palace, with reports suggesting that a minimum of £50m can be expected.
With this cash influx, the Eagles can replace Guehi and then some.
Reports have suggested that Palace will re-enter the race for a defender they wanted in January, but face serious competition.
Crystal Palace to battle Atletico Madrid for Guehi replacement
One name which seems likely to be looked at once against this summer after interest and contact being made in January is Valencia’s 19-year-old centre-half, Cristhian Mosquera.
According to The Standard, Palace are expected to face competition from Atletico Madrid this summer for the teenager’s signature.
This follows an approach in January from Dougie Freedman, but interest is high and Palace will need to act quickly.
Mosquera is thought to have suitors across Europe and he’d be a real coup.
In some ways, Mosquera might even be an upgrade on Guehi in certain areas on the field.
Cristhian Mosquera outperforms Guehi in some important areas
Guehi is a top centre-half as his stats over the last year, as per FBRef show:
- Tackles – 1.15 per 90
- Interceptions – 0.90 per 90
- Blocks – 0.86 per 90
- Clearances – 3.81 per 90
- Pass completion – 85.4 per cent
Mosquera has even better defensive stats as FBREF shows:
- Tackles – 1.49 per 90
- Interceptions – 1.16 per 90
- Blocks – 1.03 per 90
- Clearances – 4.34 per 90
- Aerials won – 1.78 per 90
- Pass completion 88.4 – per cent
In the report, Palace have also been linked with Ronnie Edwards once again.
This is nothing new with the Peterborough defender a long-term target, with this summer looking like the time when he could leave.
