Evangeline Lilly's ability to stir pain, despair, suffering, and loss in her sophisticated role is heroic. However, I believe "Truth" is that the star of this film and the co-star is undoubtedly her. Armie Hammer and Gary Oldman shine in their roles amidst an outstanding cast with Greg Kinnear and others. I only hope these necessary films eventually become the straw that breaks the camel's back of corporatized industries that practice unconscious capitalism, like the pharmaceutical industry, and prey on the public's health at large.

Yes, "Suspense" & "Thriller"...soundtrack, not so much the movie itself. The suspenseful music seemed to play through out every second of this movie, it felt manipulative. I read several reviews before deciding to watch it, then found myself waiting for the truly suspenseful-thriller part to start. It is a good movie, (not great), definitely on point with our current events, but there was never a moment where I sat on the edge of my seat holding my breath. I wouldn't recommend it to a friend, unless like me, they're on bed rest with a broken foot and are looking for something to pass the time.

The description of what happens to a researcher who does not agree with the trend is accurate, reality is much worse.
I suspect too many treatments are approved because of alleged tiny benefits, with studies designed to find tiny benefits, perhaps for a small group of people. Once approved by FDA, drugs can be used off label with good marketing to patients and doctors.

Everyone should see this film especially if you know someone into oxy/fentanyl or has died of drug overdose. All facets are looked at in this crime drama/thriller from the research and FDA approval to DEA involvement and undercover agents, a mother who lost her son, and the kingpins of the industry. 3 stories but only two end up intersecting with each other. Opoid addiction is a CRISIS. I know because my nephew OD'd on Oxcy/Fentanyl laced and heroin. He struggled with addiction for approx. 12 years which all started with MARIJUANA addiction and progressed. Excellent film.Predictable but still a must see.

This movie covers a contentious but important topic that must be covered as we truly do have an opioid CRISIS. *spoilers* I wished for something better for Gary Oldman's characters' plot because we need heroes who are willing to put their necks out in order for this epidemic to end. Alas, I guess ending with a feeling of dread is how we should feel to tackle the problem at large. The photography and acting were incredible. Evangelline Lilly's performance was especially convincing considering her character's own struggles with addiction. Loved the movie and how tense it was. 10/10 would watch again!

BTW, Anybody know what song was playing during the supermarket scene? That was an amazing scene.

Irgendwo, in Nordamerika: ein junger Mann wird in der Wildnis beim Überschreiten der Grenze von Kanada in die USA durch die DEA gestellt, dabei werden tausende von Fentanyl-Pillen sichergestellt, während ein Undercover-Agent der DEA versucht, einen großen Deal so einzufädeln, dass auch ein paar Big Player vom Markt genommen werden können. Parallel dazu ist die junge Mutter Claire, ehemals süchtig nach dem Schmerzmittel Oxycodon, auf der Suche nach ihrem Sohn und erhält kurz darauf traurige Gewissheit: der Junge ist tot, offensichtlich gestorben an einer Überdosis Fentanyl. In ihrem Schmerz sinnt die Frau auf Rache. Wiederum parallel hierzu erhält der Universitätsprofessor Brower die Ergebnisse einer Routineüberprüfung eines Schmerzmittels vor der Zulassung, und diese Ergebnisse fallen deutlich anders aus als vom Hersteller angekündigt..

„Crisis“ ist ein kanadisch-belgisches Thriller-Drama in gewisser Tradition des stargespickten und vierfach Oscar prämierten Dramas „Traffic – Die Macht des Kartells“ von Steven Soderbergh aus dem Jahr 2000. Sogar die Erzählweise wurde nachgeahmt: wie „Traffic“ erzählt auch „Crisis“ drei verschiedene Stränge, die auf die Schicksale von drei Einzelpersonen fokussieren und zwei davon sich zumindest berühren lässt (verwoben kann man das Ganze wohl nicht nennen). Stargespickt ist "Crisis" auch, und so sieht man neben Armie Hammer, Gary Oldman und Evangeline Lilly noch Luke Evans, Michelle Rodriguez, Johnnie Depps Tochter Lilly-Rose und uns Veronica Ferres.
Die Sucht nach dem Schmerzmittel Oxycontin und besonders dessen hochwirksamen, extrem süchtig machenden Inhaltsstoff Oxycodon ist ein riesiges Problem in den USA, denn in den letzten paar Jahren starben über 200.000 Amerikaner an einer Überdosis, das sind jährlich mehr Opfer als der Vietnam-Krieg insgesamt gefordert hat (wie eine Texttafel am Ende des Films erläutert). Wikipedia liefert zwar andere, aber nicht minder bestürzende Zahlen: bis zum Ende des Jahres 2020 waren 450.000 an Überdosen des Schmerzmittels verstorben, davon alleine im genannten über 90.000. Das Mittel fällt in Deutschland übrigens bereits seit 1929 unter das Betäubungsmittelgesetz, während es in den USA aufgrund von aggressiver Werbung, Verharmlosung, Verschleierung und Lobbyarbeit allzu leicht zu bekommen war. Das hochwirksame Mittel, zunächst unter anderem in der Palliativmedizin bei stärksten Schmerzen eingesetzt, wurde später bei den geringsten Wehwehchen verschrieben. 2017 rief Präsident Trump aufgrund der Krise im Zusammenhang mit Opoiden im Allgemeinen und den Todesfällen im Besonderen gar einen medizinischen Notstand in den USA aus.
Obwohl bereits Werte vorlagen, die das extreme Suchtpotenzial des Mittels nachwiesen wurde durch Lobbyarbeit erwirkt, dass die Arznei trotzdem eine Zulassung bekam. Ergebnis und Siegerehrung: siehe oben.
Fentanyl wird im Film thematisiert, und das Zeug ist noch weitaus wirksamer. Fentanyl wird beispielsweise auch in der Bundeswehr von Ersthelfern B bei extrem schmerzhaften Verletzungen verwendet bzw. die Einführung war zumindest mal im Gespräch, und da das Mittel atemdepressiv wirkt, wird ein Verwundeter wie bei der Verabreichung von Morphin auch grundsätzlich überwacht. Macht der gemeine, süchtige Amerikaner natürlich nicht, denn das Zeug ist relativ leicht erwerbbar, weil leicht zu verschreiben, und beim Hausgebrauch verdosiert man sich natürlich schon mal. Dadurch ist eine Überdosis Opoide die häufigste Todesursache bei Amerikanern unter 50. Nicht zu fassen.
Aber zurück zum Film: „Crisis“ ist ein leidlich spannender und dramatischer Film, der die vorherrschenden Zustände durchaus ein wenig plakativer darstellen hätte können, um die Betroffenheit noch zu steigern.

Das Bild fand ich einwandfrei, ich teile die Bildwertung der ersten Bewertung so nicht. Das Bild ist scharf, ausgewogen kontrastiert, detailreich und plastisch und somit nicht allzu weit von Referenzwerten entfernt.

Der deutsche Track liegt in DTS HD MA vor; der Sound hat mit dem überwiegend dialoglastigen Film leichtes Spiel. Ab und ab fällt die Surroundkulisse angenehm auf, während sie sich ansonsten weitestgehend zurückhält. Ein paar direktionale Effekte treten auf, der Bass hält sich die meiste Zeit zurück. Am besten klingt der Soundtrack.

Extras: nicht angesehen, ich vergebe den Mittelwert der vorliegenden Bewertungen.

Mein persönliches Fazit: lässt sich gut ansehen, der Film ist definitiv unterhaltsam. Schockierend sind die tatsächlichen Hintergründe des Films, die ein wenig deutlicher herausgearbeitet hätten sein können. „Crisis“ ist quasi „Traffic“, nur mit Oxy und Fentanyl statt mit Kokain; ohne dessen Güte je zu erreichen. Aber zum einmaligen Ansehen ist der Film gut geeignet.
