Are there more concrete parameters for "modern"? Are we voting on books that came out since 2000? 1990? Is the setting supposed to be present day, or is a crime/mystery novel written recently but set in the past admissible? In Cold Blood was written in the same era as Dame Agatha wrote.

Hi Donna, I have the same question as you. Yes, Christie was writing through the 70s as you note, and I'm not sure how we would delineate "modern" crime from "classic" crime, unless we go with 1975, which is the year Agatha Christie's "Curtain" was published posthumously.

What is wrong with people? Removed from the very first page, #98, because it's an Agatha Christie book. Christie fans, read the instructions and if you want to vote for Dame Agatha, go to one of the zillion other mystery lists.

Am I the only one who feels that #147 Brave New World and #193 A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man are not really a good fit for this category?

Certainly. I hadn't looked at this list and it's full of books that need to be yanked. Give me some time and I'll get to it. Meanwhile, the system found and removed 5 duplicates.

Before you add a title, consider this: if I find any more books have been added that are obviously nonfiction, sci fi, treasured classics that are not mysteries, or horror, I will assign you detention.
I'm by no means done, but I'm done for tonight. If you see a title that needs to come down, please include the item#, or at least the page, where you found it.

Hey, I've just added a note in the description to emphasize no one add books from other genres. If you have any specific guidelines I could add, please share. I'll try to go through the list myself later.

Sure. But you have to know, there will be some of this silly business no matter what you say in the description. Some people will vote without even reading the description; for quite awhile I have held a gut hunch that listopia is often visited by those that have had too much wine or other mood-altering substances.

Picking up where I left off. Removed due to genre:
#94 Sometimes a Great Notion: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
#9 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nesthttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
#92 (I think) Ubik: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
As of this one shining moment, page 1 is clean. I'll be back. There is a lot of ugly in the world about which I can do nothing, but this list? I can fix this list.
