I had reserved a block of rooms for a August wedding. I worked with Kristen and she was fantastic. She returned call, ansered questions and was fast and friendly. When we had to cancel due to COVID, she was very helpful. While we didn't end up staying here, the customer service was excellent.

The darkest, moldiest, least safe, most broken-down Marriott I have experienced in my heavily traveled lifetime. Just stay literally anywhere else... even if it's a back alley for the night. I can't believe this is an actual Marriott property.

The hotel hallways/rooms smell like cigarettes, the pictures on their site are outdated. The pool wasn't kept clean. The beds were comfortable and front desk were polite, but I definitely won't book at this hotel again.

We have stayed at this hotel annually for years (see prev posts). There have been assorted problems, but we always came back because of limited availability of other hotels in the area. Now that there are more hotel choices in the same locale, we can bid adieu to this declining-in-service hotel.

Let's start with the cafe. Several years ago, Marriott switched from a buffet-style breakfast to a counter service one and the decline started. There used to be free coffee in the lobby, but that has long gone. Now you have to stand in line--a slow service one at that--in the morning to pay for coffee (unless you sneak some into your own coffee cups as we witnessed on more than one occasion). There is usually one person at the counter and if there is a problem or a lengthy order, you will wait and wait. The same person who takes your order and payment also preps some of your order and takes it to tables or packages it up for delivery. With only one person doing this, you can imagine how long someone might stand in line. At 7am, we often encountered too long of a line, and one day just left and drove up to the wonderful coffee shop up the road (0.3 mile). On our last morning, the staff person wasn't even present at the 6:30am opening and strolled in a few minutes later with no personal greeting to us, no apologies, and basically an indifferent attitude to his job and responsibilities.

Next let's focus on housekeeping. One day we returned to our room late at night, around 10pm. There were fresh towels in the room, the sink area was cleaned, and new disposable cups resupplied. However, the bed looked either just partially made, or had some other activity on it (honestly, we did not know which one). See attached photos of this bed-making.

Additionally, our usual routine from Day One was to have breakfast around 7am, then leave for a neighborhood walk, returning to the room around 9:15-9:20am-ish. The privacy sign was left on the door so that we did not encounter housekeeping when we got back and wanted to shower and dress. This was no problem for a few days, but one day we found a xeroxed note under our door (see attached photo). This note was not there when we went to breakfast but was there after the walk when we arrived back at 9:22am. (We should note that we saw many of these papers under room doors around 7am when we walked to breakfast.)

This entire idea of putting notes under room doors was an extreme cop-out on the part of the Housekeeping Dept. Where they short-staffed for the day, lazy, or etc? We could perhaps understand if one of these notes were put under a door in the late afternoon, but seriously---BEFORE 9:30 (or even earlier) in the morning? The concept of making the customer then call the front desk to arrange for housekeeping to come back is just plain rude. By the way, if they want to arrange Marriott points for no housekeeping, how about telling people that at check-in?

Lastly, the young man at the front desk was not helpful at all. The printer in the lobby to use for airline boarding passes seemed to need a refill of ink (new toner) as we could barely make out the printed passes. We went to the front desk and asked the staffer about it. He didn't say anything, just went to the back room, then came out and started working on another matter. Not one word was said to us, the matter was totally ignored.

The hotel seems to have some serious issues with some of their workers and it shows up in terrible service. The fancy new remodel cannot make up for any of this so we will gladly part ways and seek a nearby hotel with a buffet breakfast, competent housekeeping, and helpful staff members.

I booked reservations a month in advance for 103 a night. I called to make sure I could stay there being I'm only 20. They said not a problem.I also checked online to make sure there was no age restriction. There wasn't. I get there and the guy at the desk said we are sorry you must be 21. Completely unorganized . Never had a problem with Marriott before. I am a marriott elite member and have stayed in courtyards before and told the guy to call portage michigan and they will tell you under 21 is allowed. He said any marriott with a bistro/bar has a 21 or older policy. I was persistent about calling portage,mi courtyard. He finally agreed to call . They agreed that the age requirement is only 18. This made the guy look completely idiotic . He then told me that the lowest rate at portage was 129 a night. At this point I was furious. I insisted I wasn't going to settle for anything higher then my 103 a night. Finally after a half hour of waiting in the lobby the guy found a marriott that would match the 103 a night. I ended up staying at lansing residence inn which actually was much nicer and the woman at the counter was very helpful! Not sure where the miscommunication came from wether corporate or individual but this was completely unacceptable ! I will be calling corporate complaining . Being an elite rewards member with a premier marriott credit card, I was treated very poorly. Very disappointed .

Btz2994, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I regret you did not enjoy your stay and you did not experience the high level of customer service I know we can give. We have always had a 21 and over age restriction to reserve a room in place at our property. Again, I apologize if you were inconvenienced and I appreciate your time in sharing your comments as all feedback is important to us. Sincerely, Julie Traskos, General Manager

Husband booked this place on a whim for a Friday night, as he was taking his big engineering exam the next day at Lansing Center, and didn't want to travel too far. I decided to tag along and offer moral support.

The location is right off US-127 at Lake Lansing Rd. exit. Conveniently right off the exit, but getting into it is a little tricky. You need to turn at Kerry St. (where there is a Mobil gas station), and then make another left to get into the plaza. To the right, there is a small business park, and to the left, there is a Mexican restaurant called La Senorita.

Parking is spread around the premise, and I wasn't used to a 2-level Courtyard Marriott. The interior is pretty standard, with the updated red/gold carpet. Since we had a second level room, up the stairs we went. As a previous Yelper had mentioned, this hotel doesn't have an elevator. For me, it's not a big deal, as I didn't have much to carry, but I think this would be a major problem for any person who is handicapped or has a lot of luggage. I mean, you can seriously lose a TON of business just based on this. I really believe that this Marriott should strongly consider updating with an elevator.

Our room was nice and spacious. The mini fridge was pretty depressing looking though, and it was placed directly on the floor. Not only was it on the floor, but it was super noisy, so Husband and I unplugged it. Just the fact that it was left outside in the open made the room look cheap. At least, if they were going to do that, put out a mini fridge that wasn't dirty or had chipped paint. Vanity/sink and bathroom area were standard and separate, so that was nice. The lighting was a bit off putting because the wall sconce had natural lighting, but then the sink area had super bright fluorescent bulbs. I'm not a fan of fluorescent lighting in general, so it would have been nice if all lighting was consistent.

Comfort level of the bed was a 6 out of 10; not bad, but not great. The covers were at clean though and had the right amount of weight to it for a cool evening. Desk area was a good size, and the couch was small for the room. Wifi was okay, but was really painfully slow in the evening. Other than those hours, the connection speed was fine.

Overall, this Courtyard is definitely sub par to some of other Courtyards in bigger cities. The addition of an elevator would certainly increase the value of this hotel, and although the lobby and market area are nice and updated with the Marriott brand, the rooms could use the same finesse (at least our room). Customer service was good, and it is a good location if you want to be near the Downtown Lansing area (it is about a 5 minute drive). However, for $110 with AAA discount, I feel that this place is overpriced for its overall condition. I wouldn't mind staying here again if I had to, but I will definitely look for other options before I settle on this Courtyard.

The hotel is about a 15-minute drive from the airport and 10 minutes from the Capital and 15 minutes to Michigan State University. There is an outdoor shopping mall about a 5-minute walk with many restaurants and stores. There was also a Sam’s Club and a Walmart that is 10-minute walk from the hotel.

The room was large and modern. The pull-out desk was nice for catching up on work and a large TV that was ready for casting your favorite shows. The internet connected quickly but was a little slow at times. You can purchase internet with faster speeds for $5 a day. The best part of the room was the bed which was both soft and firm with many pillows to include feather and cotton. The bathroom was a shower with a tub.

The hotel has a bistro that serves as both a coffee station with food in the morning and food and drinks in the evening. There are many places to sit and hangout with friends and colleagues. There is also a small pantry for last minute snacks on the go. The hotel also has coin laundry, an indoor pool, and a fitness room. The fitness room had cardio machines and was medium sized for the size of the hotel. At the time of my stay all facilities were closed except for the laundry room. Also, there is no shuttle service. Local restaurants were open with 50% seating capacity.

Stayed here a few days ago and the hotel is nice (typical courtyard) but the location is a little rough. Across the street and down is the Fairfield and that location looked much better. The staff for breakfast was incredibly slow! It took the lady a good minute to find the water button while 6 people in line stood waiting.

This Courtyard Stay was the first for me. I usually stay at Hilton or Holiday Inn properties but this site was recommended by my company. Be warned that the hallways are long and if you get a low # room like 202, you'll be walking a while to arrive there. The lobby area restaurant is expensive and tends to have long lines in the AM hours. My experience was that there was no one there when I tried to get a cup of coffee at 6:15AM. I paid more than $5 for a bottled water and a juice. I chose not to buy anything else after that.

The set up of the room furniture could be better as they place the writing desk right in front of the AC so you'll freeze while trying to work on your computer. The rooms have layers of dust on the furniture and the sofa was something I stayed off. I didn't trust it for cleanliness. The toilet flushes slow and rises to the top like it is going to overflow. I got tired of the notes shoved under my door for each day I didn't want room service. This s the only hotel I've stayed in that has no trash can liners. I left a note asking for garbage bags for the 2 cans and the maid service left the bags on the sink for me to put in the cans myself. At that point I figured I don't need any room service. I made my bed myself.

The fitness room tends to be ice cold. This may be good for some but for me this was a problem.

The one positive is the location with shops/restaurants right across Lake Lansing road and easy access to the expressway.

Myself and a colleague stayed here and both have changed hotels for our upcoming trips for the next 4 weeks. We've advised our company to not recommend to our other team members for any subsequent lodging.

Recently stayed overnight here for a business trip. I usually stay at Marriott Courtyards for business. This stay was fine as far as the hotel chain itself; staff was great, room was fine, bistro was yummy. Only complaint is hearing a midnight train nearby that was just loud enough to be annoying for light sleepers.
