Corruption Gear is getting nerfed!
I’m upset because US looted their caches, cleared some corrupted effects, and equipped their new items only for them to be nerfed. Seems like Blizzard could have announced this prior to the Tuesday reset.
I'm okay with it. I got "12% of haste is converted to Avoidance"........ On my Unholy DK. So fuck them and fuck this system too.
[removed]
The problem with that is the corruption that comes along with it means you have to drop offensive corruptions.
But we did similar in Legion in M+; I distinctly remember having to use Prydaz, Stam Flask and equipping highest iLvl gear for Stam on my Shadow Priest for 20+ keys.
While avoidance is amazing you'd never take it over the substantial damage increases. Maybe you'd have 1 or 2 people who need to do a specific job that needs to be able to take extra damage do it for comforts sake but since the fights are always tuned for you to not need it then you always take the extra damage.
Mine grants 2% avo. It's still pretty trash unless it's specifically for the stat you stack a TON of.
I agree with you, but it would need a big buff to be truly effective. What's also annoying about it is that it's competing with damage corruptions.
My rets cache piece was 3% leech :<
I got 16 % of my haste as avoidance for my mw monk <o/
Also ... NA guilds that raid on wednesday get to reclear with still untouched corruption gear meanwhile my thursday-sunday raiding EU guild will lose like 5%+ dps for the reclear simply because blizzard is incapable of rolling those hotfixes out with the weekly reset.
Not even mentioning the implication for Method who might get scammed out of any chance to get back into the race because they will have much harder time to reclear.
The changes aren't in yet. They clearly state in the announcement it'll be happening in the next 24 hours and there would be another post with the tuning changes they decide on before they occur.
The world first euro teams will have their chance to reclear before the nerfs.
I don't feel bad for method at all. They're well known for abusing mechanics that they know damn well are over tuned or wrong. With as powerful as the corrupted gear was, they had to have known it was going to get nerfed soon.
Every world first guild uses the best gear available for them? Limit does, Alpha does, pieces does and literally everyone else including the nhc raider that gets lucky with his corrupted gear.
And every top tier guild abuses every possible mechanic they can to win world first. No idea why you specifically hate method for doing it while it seems to be okay for every other guild
I got trinket on 2 chars out of three. Then, on my main I got a decent boots from m+ and.... basically the same boots from PvP chest.
I'm upset because this whole corruption system sucks. Absolute garbage, give me back titanforging.
We complained that we don't like titanforging and asked for it to be removed. They decided to try corrupted... It is kinda bad especially now that we have nearly no options for it. (May be better in a couple of months when all have a piece with bis corruption) But seriously, it is never a question of A or B. If you hate it so much, the choice should be no A and no B!
Imagine the people that spent hundreds of thousands of gold if not millions or more on BiS corrupted items that may now turn to shit.
Clown. Show.

Nothing was remotely interesting about it because everything was passive. It's only interesting if you like big numbers popping up on screen.
BfA Class Design and gameplay in a nutshell. Over 50% of your shit is passive RNG procs that you have zero control over.
I had like 170% haste on my shaman last night and like 18 buffs. No fucking clue where it came from.
My guess would be in a black empire assault. The mobs stack a hysteria buff on you up to 20 and then you get feared. This buff increases haste and ability cost.
Legion Class Design and gameplay in a nutshell.
FTFY, this all started with the legion overhaul. BFA just doubled down on the worst parts of legion... then apparently quadrupled down since I left.
Going from WoD to Legion and realizing your spec has the same depth at lvl 110 as it did at lvl 10. "Artifacts will fix it tho." Look at artifact: all passives and 1 active ability with a 40 year cooldown.
EDIT: I fixed a math error
The interesting part of the system is supposed to be playing around the negative effects and trying to manage them for the large boosts to performance. This only works though if the effects are bonkers good like IS on doggo boss and EV/TD in M+.
If you nerf the good effects (instead of doing what they should do, buffing the bad ones) you make it so the negative effects aren't worth playing around with at all since it's not worth the risk for such a small gain.
The real problem with the system is the acquisition of the effects themselves. In my experience with my guild it looks like corruption is about a 10-15% chance on an item. IF it rolls corrupted, it now has over 50 different possible rolls. Making it something like a 0.3% chance of getting the corruption you want, at the tier you want on any given item.
Assuming you even get that item in the first place.
And now if they are going to fucking retune everything, people feel obligated to hold onto corrupted gear they could cleanse because fuck, who knows which corruption might be BIS after Blizzard's done.
Firsttime?.jpg
Wouldn't matter if you could just repurchase an item, but Blizzard's RNG means you gotta hold onto it like a fucking collectible from those random PVC fig packages.
I'd take passive effects over having an additional 5 buttons for active spells.
How is Echoing void interesting?
It's literally brain dead and stupid as fuck having tanks do 1010111001 DPS or casters standing in melee perma with EV.
having to play melee as a range dps just because it sims second best and you don't have stars yet... so fun
I mean, star's is great on pure single target sure, add any adds and that split the proc and it falls off pretty quick.
My ev setup (x2 r2 EV) sims far better than my 430 stars (r3), I've literally just been stuck in melee for progression as an owl. It's not fun or engaging.
exactly, we lose dps not using it but its so annoying to play around, great for classes where its just equip and forget
That's actually the most interesting thing imaginable for casters
Playing the game like a melee, but with a caster kit, and a caster squish
Because it shows damage values on any mob within range.
You know that feeling you get when you pop all your CD’s and do a trillion damage to all the adds on Carapace? That’s why it’s fun.
The whole system is flawed, not only corruptions, Azerite gear is the same bullshit.
The traits / corruptions don't interact in any meaningful way with your rotation, they just "enhance" it with random effects for the most part.
If the traits would change up the gameplay it could have been a really interesting design choice, but nope, random effects which make it impossible to calculate your DPS without third party tools all the way.
I guess with how Blizzard is fucking up these last months we can not expect that the new expansion will deliver anything interesting and new in that regard. It's just sad.
Corruptions yes. Azerite gear, no. Azerite traits can significantly alter your rotation.
It really depends on the class/spec.
Like Glimmer of Light for Holy Paladins opens up a whole new playstyle.
Meanwhile you go over to Fire mages and Blaster Master just has you throw a few extra scotch casts in during your cooldown.
You’re playing fire mage with BM wrong if you’re doing this in 8.3.
There are specific changes to fire mage combustion if you have bm
There are specific changes to aoe if you have bm
Blaster master changes how you play as you want the matery proc (3600mastery) and to notnlet it drop and build it
I must be that one weirdo who thinks the system might not suck given half a year. Remember how godawful trash legionadaries were when they first game out? Prydaz and sephuz being worse than normal purples?
Half an xpack later they all had a purpose and were actually kinda fun. I hope blizz looks at this corruption fiasco and takes some big notes for shadowlands. These things could be like tier set bonuses...if they do it right.
Heres to hoping.
What pisses me off the most is that before releasing BFA they sold the Azerite system as exactly that.
Tier-Set like effects on items which you can put together your way. It's nothing like that, not even remotely.
One of the worst decisions they've made for a new expansion.
I'd love it if we could have multiple sets in the game, doesn't have to be raid tier only. Some 2-3-4 piece quest / crafting sets or a Ring/Neck/Trinket combo with interesting effects where you can mix and match various traits would be fantastic imo
What is so strange to be is how hit-or-miss they were with making these traits feel truly class altering. On my ret paladin, I DO have some traits that alter the way I gear up, the consistency of my damage, and what talents work out best for me (shifting priority to other abilities).
Do I want to be a 2-pump chump and put everything into my cooldown window? Do I want to have consistently strong ST that isn't completely CD dependent (And have to stack crit as a result)? Do I want to have Divine Storm procs for an AoE setup?
To me, it actually can be pretty interesting, but the availability of Azerite (and having to reforge it to change traits) puts a limit on it, and I'm kind of one of the lucky ones - lots of people out there are stuck with their best traits being +stat or passive "x does some additional damage".
I dont know for you guys but I find it so exhausting dealing with constant modification in the game...
Jesus Blizzard put your sh*t together and release something that can be played more than a week without checking tier-site for finding out what shall I grind for... the grinding itself is already exhausting enough...
And frankly feeling/being overpowered at the end of an expansion shall be the normal state of game...
100% this. Not just the mechanics but the story too. I find all the RP just a slog.

I mean, the problem with "interesting" systems is that it tends to be an RNG fuck fest if you even get access to a playstyle. We've got the worst the other direction here where it's both boring and creates giant skews in DPS depending on your drop luck. I'd much rather make loot super boring (There is ilvl which determines damage/stamina/armor, nothing more) and then more talents that actually effect how you play
Blizzard listens to a vocal minority that says they want a complex game. But when they get a complex game they hate it. I suspect they don't know what they want.
They want something that's complexly interactive like stat softcaps + gem slots + glyphs + talent trees + stat builds in Wrath. Shit like azerite, essences, and corruption are not complex in an interactive way, they're needlessly convoluted and random.
[removed]
Oh hey borderlands 3
You forgot a bullet point after your second one
create a pay to win system with BoE being able to proc the overpowered effects
Don’t forget offering a way to cleanse corrupted pieces that aren’t worth it, and then buffing the worthless pieces.
I grinded everything I could and never got an item with a really good corrupted effect, so that was fun... having trash dps because of BS RNG. I’m glad there’s change
The catch 22 in motion
Either make corruption relevant and thus it's a hellish RNG system or make it irrelevant in which case who cares
[removed]
Oh I completely and totally hate the corruption system and I think blizz choosing to make it irrelevant is a sign that tells us they don't want this to be a thing in the future.
I am solidly in the school that says the only RNG should be what the boss drops. Beyond that should be player agency to empower the loot how they want
Make corruption relevant and make it currency based so I can save up my currency and apply the corruption I want where I want it. Boom, catch 22 gone.
To further that, make the currency drop in fucking everything and scale it. You'll have mythic players mixing in with LFR and normal raids if/when they're bored to get some extra currency. And guess what? People will log in almost daily to work on their fucking currency and gear to corrupt which suits whatever bullshit metrics they seem to be chasing with all this daily timegated trash.
I would spam Heroic looking for group dungeons and whatever the hell else for hours on end if I could farm rep with a tabard on and currency for corruption. Currently I just login to swipe my dailies out in 30-45 minutes then I log off unless it's a raid night.
"What about when you get full BiS since it's guaranteed if you're willing to put in the time to farm the currency required?" Then I would actually be motivated to play an alt knowing I could BiS them out too and not have to worry about getting a fucking Avoidance corruption proc out of my weekly chest on a class that can't even spec for tanking.
It is amazing how this shit repeats over and over again in WoW.
Covenants, or whatever they are called, in Shadowlands will play out the same way.
Or they can do that difference between BIS and t2 corruptions are in typical "get better gear from RNG" values.
Infinite Stars might need a nerf, but EV was egregiously strong for every situation. Stars is pretty mediocre compared to Twilight Devastation and EV in M+, and also suffers on raid fights with adds.
I think a big part of the issue is tanks. EV and Twilight are % of HP damage, and balanced around dps. Tanks with 3x the hp of dps get way more out of the corruptions.
They don't need to nerf the corruption into the ground, just make it a flat damage number instead of a % of hp.
my 1.2m healthpool demon hunter with t3 echoing void wants you to shush.
I'll be happy if EV is brought down to a reasonable level so it feels like I can use other corruption effects without gimping myself as a tank. That said, Gushing Wounds is actually better dps/corruption for most specs, but unlike EV it has ilvl scaling and is also difficult to get a lot of since it only has one (low corruption) rank.
Only giving ilvl scaling to some corruption effects and allowing tanks to get the same % conversion as DPS for EV and TD are some of the more boneheaded decisions made by Blizzard with this system.
A good nerf would be to reduce effectiveness on tanks while leaving the dps mostly untouched (mayeb a small nerf)
I do like tank gearing this patch. With %hp or %armor damage procs I feel impactful for the first time since removal of vengeance. In Legion at least I had 'I REFUSE TO DIE' playstyle when I actively had to sustain myself while in BFA I feel more like a training dummy for healers.
If only the developers also played this game with the rest of us, they could have solved this mystery.
they could put in the man hours to figure out that tanks would have significantly high health pools during the last patch of the expansion as they’re in the best gear at the highest part of the power curve.
They then could have taken 1.2-2% of that HP (through calculation) and determined it was indeed a significant number in relation to add health (by taking their HP value).
Had a tank and a DH do top damage in a 12 ML because of this. 35% of their damage was a passive RNG ability they have no control over. Crits were over 400k damage.
This game sucks now. They didn't get rid of tf/wf, they just renamed it to corruption and made it worse.
IS sims ridiculously well, but in practice it's not as powerful as you might think.
Especially in Ny'Alotha where a majority of the fights have adds.
Infinite stars doesn't need a nerf. It takes an entire Heroic raid boss fight for it to rev up where it snowballs into 20% of your damage. Doesn't really effect anything in PvP anymore either, it's at most like an essence proc. It doesn't do shit on half the Ny'alotha bosses since it doesn't cleave or you can't damage them enough without interruption. It's remotely effective in very high end Tyrannical weeks in Mythic plus, otherwise it doesn't really do much. I have it at tier 3: on Shadhar it's insanely good, on Drest and Ilgy it's below my 440 Bile-stained crawg tusk in damage.
Sure if you sim for Patchwerk 5 min fights it's the best corruption there is. Too bad there's only 1 boss like that in Nyalotha.
I don't think IS needs another nerf, it's value per corruption isn't much higher for ST than some others for my fire mage and its value obviously tanks with any sort of multi target or periodic adds. Perhaps a change to how it procs differently depending on specs.
Everyone was bragging about how powerful Infinite Stars is and they don't even mention it in this press release.
Meanwhile, I'm over here watching my Twilight Devastation flatten a dozen mobs including ten I wasn't even actively engaged in combat with and now I have to watch that potentially go away.
So, in the off chance you didn't read the actual article, and just saw the headline, here's what's being changed.
Echoing Void is getting nerfed. Void Ritual and Deadly Momentum are getting Buffed.
Twilight Devastation might get nerfed. Other corruption effects might get buffed.
That's it.
Because what is PTR for again?
Crash and compatibility testing, not balance or design feedback.
Unfortunately.
p.s. and this is what the Shadowlands Beta will be for, also. Quickly get over any notion you might have that whatever hits beta is open to being completely overhauled or rewritten, because it's not. As we saw, their great "class balancing" was tweaking +/- damage auras, and it wasn't until 8.1 that huge flaws in Azerite were addressed, and 8.2 the neck came in as Azerite design 2.0.
Aren't mac players still crashing, stuttering and lagging like crazy? Maybe they do use PTR for crash and compatibility testing, but only for us on PC lol.
who needs to test shit when our playerbase will just test it for us?
-Ion, probably
same as beta, marketing/hype and maybe fix literal gamebreaking bugs.
Like...
Ok. So, I don't know why this bothers me so much.
Corruption was...supposed to be over powered and crazy. And it seems like NO ONE at Blizzard tested ANYTHING. ABOUT 8.3 AT ALL.
I don't know what's worse, certain affixes being broken as fuck or them all being largely worthless.
How about making all affixes overpowered and crazy? I think that'd be more fun than what we are getting atm.
Also In the long run, certain corruptions are going to be much better with more optimized gear / higher ilvl gear, as an example, an arms warrior with haste multipliers and enough haste will have enough time to effectively double dip test of might and colussus smash every time without using lucid dreams essence, so reaching enough haste to do that should be way more valuable than echoeing void / Infinite stars.
Fury warriors / outlaw rogues can become pretty crazy with crit multipliers too.
Atm, my assassination rogue is running with 3x heart of darkness and 18% mastery multipliers and 9% versa multiplier at 444 ilvl, I'm doing overall 40-50k dps in M+ and some pretty neat ST dps ( 45-56k dps by the end of fight ), and the rotation is much more fluid and fun, this is while my gear mostly doesn't have mastery, I reckon with more optimized gear and more multipliers this could bring many new cool gameplay styles, as you can see most assassin rogues are going vigor where as I'm going deeper stratagem.
The echoeing void / infinite stars and other passive damage corruptions are just that, passive damage procs, I'm pretty sure they'll all fall in value by a huge amount soon, the nerf is deserved, but I hope blizzard doesn't nerf them to become nothing.
How about making all affixes overpowered and crazy?
Remember in Legion, when some Legiondaries were insanely good DPS, and some were utility only and largely useless? Remember how, instead of nerfing the top legendaries for every spec, they instead massively buffed the other items? How bad would it have felt if they nerfed everything down to being original Prydaz?
It's just another thing Blizzard did better in Legion.
Hey, man. I loved my Prydaz shield.
Not when you received it at the beginning of the expansion. It jumped on my Mist monk from almost worst to best leggo with one patch. Also it was the first leggo I received so it turned from initial disappointment to happiness.
They are saying they might consider buffing some.
What is that going to solve? The only thing I've seen people suggest so far is nerfing or buffing corruption effects but that doesn't solve the issue. People were excited about corruption effects because it extended classes, but in the worst way imaginable. Blizzard made the same mistake with Azerite traits, then made the same mistake with essences, and then they continued that trend into corruption effects. "Generic" all purpose fillers for some of the worst class design this game has ever seen, is not a solution. Traits, essences, and corruption effects, all have no impact whatsoever in my rotation. It does not add class fantasy, it does not add interesting new mechanics to play with, there is no added depth to existing abilities, it all functions exactly the same. The only difference, is that I can mash buttons faster with bigger numbers because of passive stat increases from gear, and use "ultimate" abilities every once in awhile.
The problem I have with all of this crap is that in most cases, these effects compete with base class abilities in damage. I absolutely HATE that. We get a bunch of random generic proc corruption effects that is completely random and arbitrary, they do exactly the same thing as other random proc effects, and all classes have access to them. All they do is change some numbers, change the name, and change the animation. This reeks of lazy class design. Stat boosts are no different, random name, random % chance of getting a stat, random, random random....
My traits, specs, and essences haven't changed all expansion. I am still using the same 6 primary traits that I have been since they first introduced the double ring armor. My class has never felt more boring to play than it has now. I don't understand how it's any easier to balance generic effects all classes can use vs fine tuning specific class effects.
It also looks like Shadowlands is going to suffer from the same issues based off of the announced covenant abilities. A generic covenant ability on top of a single class ability. Adding new class specific abilities is great, but we need depth, and currently, the most depth this game offers is random procs on other abilities if you use a qualifier ability (think spinning crane kick for monks, or ice lance for mages). There needs to be way more to this so rotations are changed up by giving abilities more meaningful interactions with each other, and giving substitutions for a variety of different playstyles. Set bonuses and legendaries were approaching this level, all they needed to do was interchange the current system of "corruption" and apply it to degrade lesser used abilities in the rotation to balance out the difference in strength of certain ability interactions. If a mage wanted to significantly increase the damage of ice lance, fuck it let them, but the corrupted effect is that it now has a cast time like frost bolt or has a long cooldown; or make other abilities less effective at applying fingers of frost. Each patch could just tune things slightly so all playstyles could have some form of "min/maxable" action in competitive play. They don't need to be gods at balancing, they just need to make shit fun to play, corruption effects are not fun in the slightest.
Well what is fun and what's not varies from a person to another, personally I love the corruptions and their ideas, it's a new system and I wish to see it evolve rather than scrapped.
I'd like to believe soon we will actually have corruption effects that directly affect your gameplay, for exam, frost bolt casts 10% faster or the cooldown on bloodthirst is reduced by 20% or warbreaker deals x more damage.
The azerite gear actually does this well in some parts, although people tend to ignore it in favour of min-maxing, you can go warbreaker build, ToM/cleave build, overpower spam build, or mortal strike spam build as an arms warrior, this is a good thing and I find it to be super cool.
Likewise with outlaw rogues for exam, incorporating between the eyes into the rotation is a cool azerite gear idea.
The class design does suck, and it's too pruned for these systems to make good use of class impacting variations.
I hope with the unpruning we'll get more abilities and get a polished system of corruption / azerite to make more quirky builds.
For example, a mage that shatters with a fireball.
Imo one of the problems that these systems face is blizzard is always removing them and introducing other systems, blizzard just needs to stick to one of them and keeps polishing that shit until it's good and fun, and imo the azerite gear / corruptions and essence reflect perfectly that.
It's fun to pop avatar, bte, trinket, then warbreaker the poor mobs for 250k each, I can only imagine how good would these systems work for a solidly designed class, for example MoP class design + azerite gear / essence / corruptions.
I'd like to believe soon we will actually have corruption effects that directly affect your gameplay
As corruption is only lasting for this tier, and no new gear at all is expected, why is this a thing you think will happen?
"We want people to get an item, see it's higher ilvl, and know it's an upgrade." -Ion Hazzacocktopus
Laughs in world quest ilvl 415 socketed blue boots with T3 echoing void replacing a 460 piece
THIS. EXACTLY FUCKING THIS. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING
They made Anzu (The raven god that drops a mount from BC) tamable yesterday. went into the dungeon on Heroic, wiped everything up to him, cast Beast Lore on him, saw the big green text that says "CAN BE TAMED", dismissed my current pet, "Creature cannot be tamed"
I don't know if it's just bugged or Anzu was never meant to be tamable, but it refers to that creature by name in the hotfix.
Obviously they spent their resources perfecting the WC3 remake, releasing it so it's perfectly optimized and playable, and deliver on promised features shown in Blizzcon.
The latter part of your comment is why people are irritated.
These developers can’t get a single thing right this expansion. They can’t implement a single mechanic properly even WITH PTR there for this exact reason.
This is so far beyond hoping for them to get their heads out of their asses and give us quality content. This feels like it’s nearing Anthem levels of developer incompetence. These guys have absolutely no idea what they’re doing.
They can’t implement a single mechanic properly
horrific visions, the m+ affix and raids seem fine
[removed]
Hmmmm... One item yielding significant DPS gains while getting unlucky nets you items with useless utility.. It's almost like we've seen this exact issue before in a recent prior expansion.....
That's the original reason they completely reworked glyphs.
Remember when certain glyphs actually did something to your kit? I think I remember for Unholy DK's, you actually needed a glyph to get Outbreak, it wasn't just a baseline ability. And you only had 1 major glyph slot and 3 minor glyph slots (hey...kinda like Essenses...), so all of the cosmetic ones were basically useless and no one picked them and only took dps increasing ones.
Blizz was like "wait hol' up" and made glyphs all purely cosmetic.
[removed]
I thought the minor being purely cosmetic was a MoP change? Weren't all 4 slots able to be slotted with minor utility or kit changes in Cata?
I don't know when they changed it, but at least in Wrath both major and minor glyphs actually changed your skills (reduced cooldowns, increased radius, longer duration on buffs, etc.) but there were also cosmetic only glyphs (Polymorph for example).
Actually before MoP there were 3 types of glyphs - minor, major and prime. Minor were cosmetic, major modified abilities, while prime in general were meant to straight up improve skills (I think).
That was a thing only in Cataclysm
In Cataclysm you had 3 types of glyphs:
-
Prime Glyphs - Made big changes to damage or your rotation, like the Hunter one that reset Kill Shot the first time you used it every 12 seconds.
-
Major Glyphs - Some less effective, but still impactful ones as well as more utility based ones, like the Hunter one that reduced the CD of Bestial Wrath by 20 seconds, or makes your freezing trap slow by 70% after it breaks.
-
Minor Glyphs - Cosmetic and utility, like the Hunter glyph to reduce the cooldown of Feign Death by 5 seconds, or increase the range of Aspect of the Pack by 15 yards.
That was the second to last iteration of glyphs though, there were iterations before that where you had to choose.
Which corruptions only gives utility? Afaik there is one with leech, but no other that is not a dps increase.
Avoidance. I've gotten nothing but "Gain 12% of your Haste as Avoidance" corruptions since the patch went live.
My mw monk got a corrupted sword with % increase to avoidance from weekly chest :/
[removed]
Hey, if they nerf the other ones enough, the vers% boost might end up being the top dps choice!
Nothing more fun and exciting than a flat % dmg increase! How intuitive this system is!
Good, now nerf them so much that I can safely purify all of my gear and don't have to worry about corrupted negative procs mini-game bullshit.
I want this - as melle with 51 corruption I can safely say I'm done with that bullshit
Luckily I don't need to worry about this as I've got back to back trinkets out of my cache, and all of corrupted effects that I've gotten are trash.
world first race just got a pretty tight clock or they might end up stuck
How is it possible these weren't tested? It would literally take an hour with a parser and a combat dummy to figure out how effective any of these items are. Especially if you have the ability to replicate the same gear with whatever effect you want.
I refuse to think this stuff wasn't released like this intentionally, with the plan to nerf it several weeks in. QA would be beyond incompetent to let anything non-intentional like this slip through.
I don't have many of these items that will be nerfed, so it doesn't directly impact me. I'm more annoyed as someone who oversees software development because it's clear Blizzard is doing a shitty job.
There are things that are hard to test and by your process an hours worth of data is sufficient to test which is gravely wrong. You need a sufficient amount of data sets and to use corruption with different classes, specs, gearsets, etc to come up with that data which takes days, weeks, and maybe months.
So in a nutshell they could of held back 8.3 and not released it in January to test corruption longer and then release it but by then most of the player base would be gone because of content drought. Or they release it sometime on time and use it as a way to collect data on corruption across all classes, specs, gearsets, etc and adjust as data suggests.
QA would be beyond incompetent to let anything non-intentional like this slip through.
What QA? Seriously. The only QA is the people who play on the PTR, and corruption was fucked on the PTR (you couldn't target pieces, just got a lootbox from a vendor). Not only that, but they routinely ignore all PTR or beta feedback on actual game systems. It's like that friend who asks your opinion on something then does the opposite because they already knew what they wanted but they just wanted to hear somebody agree with them. That's all the PTR or beta is for, it's for players to tell Blizzard they got everything right on the first try because you'll be damned if everything isn't shipping live as-is.
Imagine adding shitty legion legendaries to the last patch of the expac
Damn, I finally got a good piece of gear with echoing void. I agree it's entirely too strong compared to most of the others, but I guess we will see how things end up! I wish they waited until after the mythic race, it's pretty messed up, I'm sure limit and method got upgrades that they cleansed because there weren't bis, and now they are that much at a disadvantage because of this terrible judgement call.
Oh man can't wait for the thread to pop up that shows headlines "What Happened to corrupted gear?" and goes on how its not even worth having corruption on gear blah blah blah..
[removed]
Right. It's the end of the expansion and we got a long time to wait.. Let people have fun Blizzard.. Just this once.
Will be less noticeable when you replace your corrupted gear with dead mans pants of the tiger next xpac.
and corruptions get disabled at 55 or whatever
we will be busy grinding all the new dailies for new shadowruption gear to empower our crocs of azeroth or some shit.
Me too, leave the current ones as is and just buff the shit ones to be competitive.
They will still be OP without it being 40%+ of my dmg on my guardian druid
I'd like my dps to be done by me and not by corruption only no matter what keys I press
For all the RNG bills bullshit Legendaries were in Legion, at least most of them change your playstyle. I remember having to actually use Maim on a boss because I had the Feral pants.
Or do what they were supposed to in the first place and have them be OP, but have a serious downside. Instead there is effectively zero penalty for maintaining corruption below 40.
I've had to use my cloak a few times to remove the slow because it would've killed me. There are definite downsides to even sub 40 corruption.
Yes and no. Yes it's fun to do silly stuff. No, it's not fun to lose your raid spot to RNG because a flex healer just got a 440 weapon with insane corruption, and you're still stuck with stuff from EP because RNG gonna RNG and Ny'a is itemized for shit.

Is it actually any good for other classes aside from Blood DK. It seems made just for them.
Infinite Stars survives yet again
Because it sucks 95% of the time.
[removed]
It has been twice. With a tank echoing void and twighlight destruction are a bit op.
infinite stars is shitty on most of the raid fights.
The fights that it's good on, it's really good on though.
I just got a 445 tier 3 infinite stars as a blood dk. My tier 1 EV on my 430 boots is so far out performing. Not sure how I feel. But with no matter the corruption I use, I struggle to clear 1 wing + thrall/ alleria in visions.
Did you try it this week? Solo runs as tank, the mobs health has been reduced by 25% if you go in as a solo tank..
Yeah, I got Echoing Void rank 2 in my M+ weekly chest. I was so excited! The only other offensive one was Infinite Stars rank 1 on a 410 belt.... you know, the one I was going to replace with a 455 socketed belt which is going to just be better for tanking...
Because infinite stars is only good on single target boss fights where the boss lives for at least a couple minutes. I would not be surprised if what they are changing for echoing void is just relevant to tank damage or hitting it so the damage lowers for aoe damage.
So instead of buffing the worthless ones, they're just going to nerf all of them until no one gives a shit about this system anymore.
Classic Blizzard.
At this time, we’re also considering:
Reducing the damage done by Twilight Devastation.
Increasing the effectiveness of other Corruption Effects.
Reading what it's says helps and after doing everything with a blood dk yeah echoing void needs a slight nerf.
Edit: dk not do.
Just wait. Gushing Wound meta about to explode. Gonna be nerfed within 2 weeks.
Guilds are gonna regress this week on the reclears, especially on fights like Hivemind.
Honestly if one could choose every corrupted piece they have, you'd just slap on gushing wounds for 20 corruption everywhere. It's so far and beyond the best dps/corruption.
To be honest twilight devastation is completely ridiculous in M+. I have about 10 ilvl lower than a friend, plays from 10k km away(ping), usually 6-7k dps below him, and since I got it I am 6-10k dps above him... It should be an improvement but it should not have this huge impact
So with Twilight Devastation rank 3 I've done 4 mythic+ above m11. Yesterday at home I checked through my logs on these and calculated the damage over those dungeons and compared to a rogue friend who has Echoing Void, over 5 m+.
Playing as assassination rogue my TD did 8.56% of my overall damage throughout these runs. It's a huge boost, but it's also 75 corruption. Echoing void rank 3 outperformed it at 11.49% for 60 corruption. Now it's not a huge sample size, but it's not nothing. Worth noting is that both of these got outperformed by Focused Azerite Beam at 11.78%.
Personally I felt that TD did more damage and got a bit surprised when I checked the logs. This is because each time TD procs once or even twice on a pack, it deals 20-30% of your damage. However there's also a lot of pulls where it never procs once. But it's on the pulls where it does proc and you're at 100k+ dps where you hover over damage meters. There's pulls where it pulls extra adds through the walls or floor (Like in Tol'Dagor where it pulled everything below us). And since it hits for like 80k+ you have pretty steady aggro if it procs when tricks is down on a pull.
Why don’t they figure this out during the PTR instead of letting players grind BiS on live for 3 weeks only to nerf it into the ground? Im so over this game.
As if you can even fucking grind this. There are 12 corruptions and something like 10% chance of getting a corruption on a piece. Do the math. It’s a fucking lottery to make bad kids feel good for a little while.
Figures. Just got a 2nd echoing void today.....
Thanks... Now I don't want to open my weekly because I know I will get EV.
Back in my time, these nerfs used to happen the day mythic was opened and then after the mythic race was over. Not in the middle of it.
Heh Fights/N'zoth is about to get even harder!
While it lasted, it was fun to do damage as a tank... Helped a lot in m+ too. Guess we're back into half dps for tank meta
Nerfed? Not really. Tuned? Yes.
I've been watching EV on various characters in my raid team and noticed its very overpowering even at lower ranks.
The people who are going to complain are the ones who were lucky to get the BIS corruption and now its getting adjusted.
Overall tuning happens - whether it happens now or weeks from now its going to happen. Some of the corruption is way to overpowering and some is way to under-powered.
As someone with rank 3 EV and who just got EV rank 2 as well, this is a necessary change. My abilities should be my highest damage not passive effects from my gear. This should have been caught heroic week because of the affect it could have on WFR. But other than that it’s a step in right direction. Interested to see what values they mean by significantly.
"omg corruption gear is op"
"omg you nerfed my corruption gear"
- wow players
Yep, called it 8 days ago; perhaps in more severe levels, but saw this coming. That if Blizzard nerfed it after the fact instead of before the mythic race, before chests would start giving good gear, before the corruption farm began in earnest, there'd be upset, instead of the other ways they could've gone about this.
I'm honestly not surprised at this point. Continuously disappointed, but not surprised anymore.
i shared this information with my guild and they reacted similar to people in this thread.
What is wrong with you?
For a week now everyone was complaining about how broken EV is. tanks were outdamaging dps players constantly in m+, a good log always had either EV for aoe or IS for ST fights. tho, EV is strong in every situation while IS is ONLY being used in pure ST fights
Now blizzard is balancing stuff out in the second mythic week, in a content that will be active for at least 7 months, if not more, and apparently that is the wrong thing to do?
in the second mythic week
this is what's wrong. 8.3 has been out for almost a month now, and was on the PTR for about a month and a half. Now that the patch is live, the raid is live, people have cleared heroic and started working on mythic progression. And blizz wakes up and says "we're gonna take away some of your character's power".
The patch went live on 15 jan. heroic opened at 22 jan, mythic at 29 jan. so they had 2 weeks of heroic data and one week of mythic data. they already made adjustments, and are now adjusting a little bit more.
And "taking away some of your characters power" is called balancing. Echoing Void is clearly overpowered. And they are not only nerfing the most broken corruption effect, they are also buffing others.
Just yesterday I saw an m+ group where the 180k outlaw rogue was outdamaged by a warrior who wore 4 echoing void pieces. This cannot be right.
