Console Table Styles and Designs

A console table, also called a sofa table, brings beauty and practicality in many more locations than simply behind a sofa. In homes where space is at a premium, a slim-lined console table substitutes for buffets, accent side tables, work stations, vanities, entertainment centers, TV stands and more. These tables also dress up bare hallways and landings by providing unobtrusive places to display artwork, pictures, lighting and mementos. If you prefer a rustic, organic vibe, consider a piece made from reclaimed pine or clear-finished solid wood. For a cosmopolitan aesthetic, look for minimalistic lines paired with materials such as antiqued brass or stainless steel.

Entry

In the entryway, a console table welcomes guests into your home by providing both a focal point and a place to set keys and cell phones. Consider expressing your sense of style by adding a lamp, a photo and a candle or succulent to decorate the surface. Place the table in front of a large mirror to create a deeper sense of space, and choose a colorful bowl or tray to collect smaller items. You can also install wall hooks near the table to accommodate coats, baskets and purses.

Dining

Console tables provide additional serving and storage surfaces in dining areas. If you don't have enough cabinet space for a home bar, consider using a console table to display pretty glassware and bottles of spirits and wine for easy access during parties and gatherings. For narrower spaces where you can't fit a buffet, a console that complements the style of your dining table may be the perfect addition.

Home Office/Bedroom

To create convenient work stations or vanities, choose a table with drawers or use small baskets on open shelving to help contain supplies and tools. Add a chair with a narrower profile and a light source to complete the space.
