Before her breakout performance in Bridesmaids, Melissa McCarthy played the beloved chef Sookie St. James in Gilmore Girls. Well, we're sure Melissa will be channeling Sookie when she joins the Barefoot Contessa herself, Ina Garten, for a virtual conversation about food, acting, and life!
The upcoming half-hour special, called Cocktails and Tall Tales with Ina Garten and Melissa McCarthy, will premiere on Discovery+ on Friday, March 26. We can't wait, and it looks like Ina and Melissa are just as excited as we are.
Ina took to her Instagram to share the news, posting a photo of Melissa alongside the caption: "So excited to be having Zoom cocktails with @melissamccarthy! Does anyone have a question theyâd like me to ask her about acting/food/life?"
Not a question, but a call to action: Time to start shaking your quarantinis!
Melissa also posted about the special on Instagram, and she's totally fangirling over meeting Ina. Not that we blame her!
"WWIGD is a sentence that runs through my head at least a hundred times a day and now I finally get to sit down and ask Ina herself, what would @inagarten do?!" Melissa wrote.
The special was filmed in Ina's home in East Hampton, New York, and outside of Sydney, Australia, where Melissa and her family are currently living, according to a press release about the show.

âWe have all been stuck home looking for new ways to make it through each day safely and when the opportunity to meet and maybe have a drink with Melissa was presented, I immediately cleared my schedule,â Ina said. âMelissa is a brilliant comedic talent who I have long admired and I think she and her husband Ben would make an excellent double-date couple for Jeffrey and myself.â
Melissa added, âThe fact that Ben and I are having a double-date via zoom, with our soon to be new best friends Ina and Jeffrey Garten seems like a wonderful fever dream. I mean, two of our daughterâs first words were Ina and ganacheâŚSeriously.â
