*Spoilers ahead for Cobra Kai season 5.*
Cobra Kai fans, be warned — there's no mercy with the season 6 news we just learned.
In Cobra Kai season 5's action-filled showdown, Daniel (Ralph Macchio) crane kicked Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) into oblivion, effectively ending his evil reign on the Valley. Rivalries settled in the aftermath, with the kids left to make their own ties. But, as John Kreese (Martin Kove) finds his way out of prison with a list of scores to settle, it's only a matter of time before another villain threatens the peace.
While we await what's next in the show's saga, here's everything we know about Cobra Kai season 6's release date, cast, episodes and more:
Will there be a season 6 of Cobra Kai?
Hai! Cobra Kai season 6 is officially on. On February 6, Ralph Macchio announced the news by dropping a teaser on Instagram. The video compilation featured all the returnees, who announced filming is finally underway in Atlanta, Georgia.
Executive producers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg hyped it up even more, telling fans in an open letter that they should “strap in for the BIGGEST SEASON OF COBRA KAI YET.”
Is Cobra Kai ending after season 6?
Looks like Cobra Kai has one more fight left. In the same breath as the season 6 renewal news, the showrunners revealed that it's also the last.
"Our day one with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we've always imagined," the executive producers wrote in the letter. "So it is with immense pride and thankfulness that we are able to announce that achievement. The upcoming season 6 will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai."
It's bittersweet news, indeed. But that doesn't mean that the sun has set completely on the Miyagiverse. "This fandom is the BEST on the planet, and we hope to be telling more Karate Kid stories with you down the line," they added. After all, Cobra Kai never dies.
One Cobra Kai star also stepped up to address the show's future. Ralph shared the season 6 teaser on Instagram and let his excitement be known. "Here we go fans!! It’s time to finish the fight. The sixth and final season of Cobra Kai is coming soon to Netflix.🥋," he wrote in the caption.
Cobra Kai fans couldn't hide their devastation under his post. "We want more seasons 😢," one person commented. "It's so sad that it's the final, but I'm hyped to see the new season!! 🔥🔥🔥," another added. "Say it isn't so!!!???? ... Saying goodbye to this one will be tough!" a different user said.
Do we know the Cobra Kai season 6 release date?
Patience, san. Though Cobra Kai season 6 is definitely on the radar, there may be quite a wait before we get an official release date. Production was halted on the final season during last year's SAG-AFTRA and Writers' Guild strikes. Netflix confirmed that it'll land sometime in 2024.
It'll be well worth the wait. Expect the usual order of 10 episodes; but this time, it all culminates with an extra lengthy finale. Hayden confirmed: "10 episodes but the total runtime for the full season will be the longest." When asked by fans whether the last episode would be long, he simply replied, "yes."
Who will be in the Cobra Kai season 6 cast?
There's no Daniel LaRusso without his best frenemy Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). Plan to welcome these other star characters back to the dojo, too:
- Xolo Maridueña as Miguel Diaz
- Tanner Buchanan as Robby Keene
- Mary Mouser as Samantha LaRusso
- Courtney Henggeler as Amanda LaRusso
- Vanessa Rubio as Carmen
- Peyton List as Tory Nichols
- Jacob Bertrand as Hawk
- Yuji Okumoto as Chozen
- Dallas Dupree Young as Kenny
- Gianni DeCenzo as Demetri
With Cobra Kai season 6 production in the works, co-creator Jon Hurwitz shared a sneak peek on X, including a photo of the fully assembled Miyagi-Fang crew, which is confirmed to include former Terry Silver protégé Tory (Peyton List).
After last season's cliffhanger, expect more The Karate Kid returnees like Kreese who broke out of prison a la fake death. It may not be the end of the line for Silver either, considering his "no-lose" attitude. Before his takedown, he secured Cobra Kai's admission into the world karate tournament Sekai Taikai — the one that sensei Kim Da-eun (Alicia Hannah-Kim) promised her father to win.
As for more ghosts from Karate Kid past making their entrance next season: The Next Karate Kid star Hilary Swank recently alluded that she's game. During an appearance on Live With Kelly and Ryan in October, however, the actress said that she's yet to get a call.
"I'm not in Cobra Kai, no one's asked me to be in Cobra Kai," she said on the show. "A lot of people ask if I'm going to be on it. It's like, the no. 1 question I get."
We won't rule anything out!
Anything we know about Cobra Kai season 6 episodes?
Speaking of said tournament, season 5 teased that this international karate competition could unite the best martial artists from around the world, which could pit the Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do students against some fresh, new opponents.
"All these kids are gaining in skill in terms of karate power, so you have to create a new obstacle for them to deal with," executive producer Hayden said to Variety. "It felt like in the real world, that’s what would happen. If you’re the best around in karate, what are you going to do? Maybe there’s something beyond just your local area."
One thing's for certain: It'll be an intense conclusion. Miguel's Xolo Maridueña recently teased "back-breaking" final episodes.
"I feel like it is a great end chapter to this Karate Kid legacy," he told Entertainment Tonight on February 6. "It's such an honor to get to work with the OGs, of course, Ralph [Macchio] and Billy [Zabka], our Karate Kids, and to get to send them off is a pleasure."
What's more, season 5 queued up a relentless Kim who strives to gain international attention for her family’s martial arts style. And with her biggest ally, Silver, knocked down a peg, coupled with Kreese's prison breakout, that could mean another epic villain team up ahead.
Turns out, fans have a right to be wary. "We liked the idea that for a lot of the characters it feels like, 'We did it. It’s over. Cobra Kai is done,'" Hayden told the publication. "Meanwhile, there’s the ultimate Cobra Kai snake out there that is really pissed off at everybody right now."
He added: "We’ll see if life goes on easy in season 6, or if Kreese has something to say. Something tells me that it’s going to be the latter."
