– PI delayed

THE commencement of the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the 2019 murder of gold miner, Deon Stoll, called ‘Mow’, was postponed after two of the accused tested positive for the deadly coronavirus.

The PI, was expected to commence a few weeks ago before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

On remand for the capital offence are Shane ‘Demon’ Morgan called ‘Dellon’, a 33-year-old graphic artist of East La Penitence; Roberto Sankar, a 28-year-old businessman of Pigeon Island, East Coast Demerara; Wayne St Hill, 38-year-old graphic artist of Dowding Street, Kitty and Steve Rollox, a 38-year-old taxi driver of Peters Hall, East Bank Demerara.
Stoll of Essequibo Coast, Region Two, and Barima Avenue, Bel Air, Georgetown, died following a shootout with the bandits on October 14, 2019.

The Guyana Chronicle was, on Tuesday, able to confirm that two of the accused tested positive for COVID-19 and are currently recovering.

In September, it was reported that 140 inmates of the Lusignan Prison had tested positive for the virus. Thus far, the majority of them have recovered.
It is believed that the bandits had been tracking Stoll for a while and believed he had cash and raw gold in his possession. When they cornered him, they did not expect him to fight back.
Police made progress within a matter of days as the movie-style robbery was captured on closed circuit television (CCTV).

In addition to those on remand, several others were charged for their alleged role in the crime. Four persons were accused of being accessory to the murder by receiving and comforting Morgan, between October 14 and 22, after he had allegedly committed the murder.

They are Odessa St. Hill called ‘baby’, a 37-year-old graphic artist of Delph Street, Campbellville; Dr.Alonzo Dos Santos, a 33-year-old Second Lieutenant in the Guyana Defence Force and resident of Prospect, East Bank Demerara; Duncan Vanveild called ‘blackbody’, 36-year-old welder of ‘B’ Field Sophia and Keith Mc Kenzie, 32-year-old taxi driver of East La Penitence. They are currently out on bail.

It would appear that at least two cars trailed the vehicle Stoll was travelling in.
Sankar was seen on CCTV footage allegedly trailing Stoll’s car and acting in a suspicious manner.

It is believed that Morgan and Wayne St. Hill were the shooters and Rollox was the driver of the vehicle they fled the scene in.
Odessa St. Hill reportedly took Dr. Dos Santos to Vanveild’s home where Morgan was hiding out from the police. He had sustained a gunshot wound and it is alleged that the doctor treated him.

McKenzie was the driver of the motor car which Morgan was intercepted in at a roadblock on October 22, 2019.
The St. Hills and Morgan are said to be cousins.
