Rangers' Road Rally Falls Short at Coahoma

CLARKSDALE - A winning streak continues to be elusive for Northwest, as the Rangers were unable to complete a second half rally in Thursday evening's 77-71 loss at Coahoma.

Northwest trailed 41-29 at the halftime break, but were able to claw back and make it a close contest throughout the second half. The Rangers even gained a 63-62 lead midway through the second half, but the Tigers responded right back to keep the game in a back-and-forth battle.

Eventually, the Tigers pulled away at the free throw line late in the half, gaining the six-point separation with less than a minute to go.

Both Jaylon Sanders and Jordan Johnson fell just shy of a double-double, with Sanders earning a team-high 21 points and eight rebounds. Johnson totaled 10 points and nine boards, while Joseph Cooper tallied 19 points and six assists.

For the evening, Northwest shot 43 percent from the floor and 32 percent from three-point range. (Stats were not available for Coahoma as of this writing.) With the loss, the Rangers fall to 5-11 overall and 3-4 in the MACCC.

Northwest will return to the friendly confines of Howard Coliseum on Monday, hosting East Central for a 6 P.M. tipoff. The Warriors are 11-7 on the season and 2-4 in conference play, most recently earning an 80-78 decision against Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Monday's game will be carried on Ranger TV (nwccrangers.com/watch) and Action News 5 Plus, available on Roku and Apple TV devices.
