Drinking Water Testing

Environmental Health Division office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We are closed from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. daily for lunch.

Please also consider using these no-contact services:

  • Request water sample bottles - Call 734-222-3800 or fax 734-222-3930. Use our water bottle request form, which is available in our lobby or online. Once payment is processed, the bottle(s) will be labeled and placed on the pick up table in our lobby. We will call you to tell you they are ready. Lobby pick-up is available from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.
  • Return water samples - Attach completed forms to bottle and place in the small white refrigerator in our lobby. Do not put water samples in the drop box located outside! Be sure to return water samples by 3:00 p.m. so they will be picked up by our lab that same day.

For Environmental Health questions or concerns, please contact 734-222-3800 or email [email protected].

Municipal Water

If you have municipal or "city" water, please contact your municipal water provider first if you have questions, concerns, or problems with your water. If you receive a water bill, you likely have municipal water.

Proper Sampling Procedures

Environmental Health staff will instruct you on proper sampling procedures. Once the sample has been taken, you must return the bottle to the Western Service Center before 3:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. Keep in mind that turn-around times for test results vary.

Note: There is an additional fee - in addition to the fee listed for the water test - if the sample is collected by Environmental Health personnel.
