I had one of the worst experiences here and it could have been totally avoided. Do not reserve this hotel for any wedding parties or large groups ever. We stayed here with other guest for a wedding close by and after the wedding the 6 of us, yes 3 couples went to the common area in the middle to have some drinks. It was about 11 pm and the bar was closed. When I asked why they said the bartender left because there was no one previuosly at the bar and she was not making any money. So we went to the gas station and brought back our own beer. Again we were sitting talking in the middle area outside and having a good time. Then another wedding party showed up and the same thing happened so they went and got drinks and we all were jus talking and having a good time. …

Response from AloftAnna, General Manager at Aloft Dulles Airport North

Thank you for your candid response, smitha41. I apologize that your celebratory event resulted in something less pleasant. I have spoken with the staff about closing the lounge early, an extremely unfortunate incident. However, our liquor license governs what we, the hotel staff and our guests, can and cannot do in the public space. Any alcolohic beverage that is purchased from our lounge must be imbided in the re:mix lobby area or in the backyard within a certain area; alcohol cannot be removed from the area and taken up the guest room nor outside of the area marked off with the small cypresses that are planted. Conversely, alcohol that is purchased off property cannot be consumed anywhere on property with the exception of the guest room; the latter is considered "within the privacy of your room" and does not carry the same restrictions. ABC guidelines govern this area; any failure on our part to uphold these laws can and will result in fees, penalties and/or loss of our liquor license. I sincerely apologize again for the early closure of the bar which caused other related events to occur. I can affect the hours of operation as handled by the staff , however, I cannot change the VA ABC laws and regulations. Thank you, Anna Lyons, GM

The hotel was modern and clean. The air conditioner unit in the room was a bit loud and came on and off a lot during the night. The shower is strong with ample shampoo etc. Can't turn on bathroom light without substantially illuminating the room. We waited 30 minutes for the bus at the airport which was absolute torture with 3 jet lagged kids. They share a bus with the hilton which is fine but there is no indication that it is the aloft hotel bus. The driver eventually came over and told us that it was the aloft bus and only when we got in the bus did we see the small sign behind the lugage rack that indicates the aloft bus. The front desk was understaffed with only one person there at 8.30pm. It took us 15 minutes to check in. The lobby is modernand welcoming. It takes a lot…

Thank you for choosing the Aloft Dulles North, TravelFamilyRichmond. I was happy to see the positives of your trip to us but also disappointed that we did not get everything quite right. As an aiport hotel, shuttles are a critical element and apologize that there were delays in your travel to the hotel; the driver ambassadors are to announce themselves, a point we will review with the entire staff. We do accommodate many last-minute travelers from the airport which at times causes a bit of a delay upon arrival but am glad that you found most of the room elements to your liking. Thank you for your comments; they will be used constructively! Wishing you safe travels in the future. Anna Lyons, GM

This hotel is not bad for what it is. We stayed there with points it was only 10k for 3 nights which is great. Our friends live only 5 minutes away so we decided to book here. We have been at the aloft in baltimore so we knew what to expect. The hotel was fine we only slept there. It does have a nice multimedia hub in the room that lets you hook up your phone or laptop and play it on the tv. There is a nice large tv on the wall. There of course were a few little problems. First you should know this hotel does not have a restaurant. They do have some pre-packed food in a small kitchen like area that is for purchase. Also there is only one person for check in in some little round desk when you walk in, I think they are all like this. One thing that bothered me was,…

Hello, rog2867, and thank you for your observations. As an SPG guest, we are thrilled that you tried out the newest member of the Starwood family. We are just like the hotel in Baltimore, and the over 50 that are now found worldwide. The plug-n-plays that are in the room are particularly fun for all travelers. I was disappointed to read your other comments and will share them with our teams, especially Housekeeping. The hotel should be kept neat and clean at all times and apologize for the conditions you found in the morning. Our shuttle provides complimentary transportation in a 5-mile radius; this helps to keep our guests connected until all of the very exciting new growth and local development makes us an even better option for our loyal travelers. Thank you again for giving another Aloft location a try; there are many more of us to come! Anna Lyons, GM

This hotel was very interesting. Older travelers may not appreciate it as much as the younger crowd. The manager was polite but not overly friendly. We traveled about 5 minutes through a isolated area to get dinner at Red Robin. I like the overall vibe of the hotel. Wi-fi was slow. They have a parking spot reserved for hybrids. My husband wished he had brougt his diesel truck to park there instead. The outside area looking in on the pool was nice, and had ashtrays for the smokers. For the price, this place is definitely a nice break from the same floral blanket hotels our parents still love.

Emberstar, your candid remarks are appreciated. There are indeed no floral balnkets; in fact, Aloft has only duvets! We are very modern, urban-cool and carefree; we are in an area that is on the brink of some amazing new construction of more housing, lots of retail and even a metrorail station. In the meantime, we are a bit off the beaten path but our shuttle service provides complimentary transportation within a 5-mile radius. I am glad that you found our Backyard to be relaxing and the hotel to your satisfaction. Please return, next time with your husband's truck! Yours in hospitality, Anna Lyons, GM

Would help to have more frequent pick-ups at IAD. Watched several other hotels come by multiple times before our van arrived (about a 25 minute wait).

Thank you, lhehtravel, for your honest review. Travel is not easy these days and so we are thrilled that we were able to help overcome lengthy travel and provide you a respite. As we share transportation with our sister property, we have different logo'd vehicles that do provide service; we obviously need to work on making this is bit clearer. Thank you again. United Airlines sent a bunch of people who had spent hours at the the Washington/Dulles airport due to flight cancellations to the Aloft for the night. Brittney was working the desk. She handled the onslaught of unexpected guests graciously and efficiently. After a long day for this traveler, the Aloft was a pleasant surprise.

Thank you, Basswoman, for your kind comments about your stay with us. Travel is already challenging without the addition of delays and cancelations. I am sorry that you had to endure such. However, I am glad that the Aloft Dulles was able to take an unpleasant situation and make it a bit better by Brittney and the Team. We hope safe and uneventful travels in the future! Sincerely, Anna Lyons, GM

The hotel itself is fine... Clean, well designed, etc. I was put off by the limited food options and the layout of the reception desk, which doubles as the 24 HR food cashier. I headed next door for a fuller menu and to an adjacent 'on the run' gas station convenience store for snacks. Only stayed for one night. Arrival and departure went smoothly aside from a delayed shuttle pick-up (two of almost every other shuttle came and went before the first aloft shuttle arrived. Check-in went smoothly as did check-out. The staff were great on both occasions.

SIncere thanks to you, hernandez, for your complimentary review. As an airport hotel, it is critical that we provide reliable transportation, as well as a respite from weary travels. I was glad to read that the service was great and that our sister property, the Hilton Garden Inn Dulles, was able to provide you with greater food choices. We hope to see you again. Unitl then, safe and happy travels. Anna Lyons, General Manager

Our only nit-pick is: the design of the bathroom privacy door leaves something to be desired. Like, privacy.

Thank you, citizenoftheworld, for your review. We think your synopsis of the hotel as "hip, trendy and affordable" is simply perfect. We offer something for both the young and the young at heart. The sliding barn door, just like at W Hotels, is very different. Your design comment has been passed along to Starwood; it is unlike any other, for certain. Thanks again for the kind review. We hope you will try our location, or one of the other 42 in North America, sometime soon. Anna Lyons, GM

They have an airport shuttle and check in was smooth. The room was small but extremely efficient. You have everything you need in a stylish, cool setting. The staff could have been friendlier in the morning and breakfast could use some more options but other than that I enjoyed my stay at the aloft.

Yes, the shuttle is available 24/7. Please note, however, that we do not do runs unless there is a request. So, if you are arriving at Dulles Airport (IAD) and need the shuttle, you need to call the hotel front desk @ 703-723-6969 to arrange for the shuttle to pick you up.
It takes about 12-15 minutes to ride in the shuttle to the airport, depending on traffic. They share a van with a Hilton
Garden which is next door. When we stayed there, the shuttle was quick to take you to the airport, every half hour, but we waited an hour for a pickup on our return flight.
