Overview

The position of Music Director (MD) exists to lead and equip volunteer MDs and bands in worship rehearsals and services across all campuses and ministries. This role supports the entire Worship Department in building a ministry that attracts and equips musicians and creates inspiring worship environments to see lives changed by Jesus.

Personal Responsibilities

  • Be committed to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18; 1 Peter 2:2) by assembling for instruction in God’s Word and engaging in the personal study of God’s Word.
  • Responsibly use the resources at your disposal to foster the mission and vision of Abundant Life (1 Peter 5:1-4).
  • Participate in an Abundant Life group (Acts 2:41-42) as well as the discipleship ministry (Matthew 28:18-20).
  • Live in a way that glorifies God and aligns with the staff core values (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9).
  • Be committed to giving to the needs of the saints (2 Corinthians 8:1-7 & 9:12).

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Trains and equips volunteer Music Directors across all ministries and campuses and assists with discipleship, accountability, and development of band members.
  • Responsible for leading bands in conjunction with worship leadership through various rehearsals and services as scheduled.
  • Prepares Ableton rigs, stems, and setup of keyboard stations across all campuses.
  • Maintains music equipment and manages inventory, needed repairs, replacements, etc.
  • Assists the process of volunteer recruiting, follow-up, and training.
  • Manages Planning Center music resources (charts and mp3s) for services across all campuses and communicates with volunteers as needed.
  • Contributes to song selections and arrangements in service programming.
  • Attends regular meetings.
  • Practices discretion and confidentiality in the dissemination of information.
  • Fulfills other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

The Music Director needs to have a high level of skill and prior knowledge of worship teams to manage general setup, Ableton rigs, keyboard, and guitar stations (MainStage, Helix, etc.). While proficiency as a musician and MD is essential, the highest priority of this leadership position is to interface with worship leaders for every campus and ministry to build a strong culture of musicianship, and to train others to carry out the functions of MD at a high level. In addition, they may be asked to assist with general sound and lighting production needs and have the ability and flexibility of schedule to run ministry events on their own or with the help of volunteers.

Above all, AL relies heavily on the embodiment of the Staff Core Values in all areas of the ministry to support our mission of seeing lives changed by Jesus and our vision of being living proof of a loving God to a watching world. The essential functions and responsibilities listed are representative of the position but are not intended to be all-inclusive of the traits needed to perform the job.

Experience

  • 1 year of experience in ministry specific worship & production setup.
  • Proficiency in music production software required (Ableton, Logic, ProTools, etc.).
