7 Amazing Worship Songs Inviting The Holy Spirit

Inviting the Holy Spirit into our lives is something we should strive to do each day because the Holy Spirit is what keeps us focused on the path God has laid for us. Whether we do this through praise, calling out, praying or worship, we can easily do this each day and we should crave it!

The Holy Spirit is our guide, counselor, and comforter. The Holy Spirit entered us when we surrendered ourselves to Jesus Christ so we can continue to be filled by the Spirit by following God’s commands and continually seek the Spirits guidance.

As we grow in our journeys as Christians, we should strive to allow the Holy Spirit to take over more and more of us. By doing this, we are letting God truly steer us and you will quickly see so many unimportant things dissipate from your lives. That is because the closer our relationship with the Holy Spirit becomes, the closer we are to becoming like Jesus.

When Jesus shared with his disciples that he would be leaving soon, he promised them the Holy Spirit would come and guide them and future Christians. He said “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will bein you.I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

The Holy Spirit was given to us by God as a bridge to know Jesus Christ. So when we worship and ask the Holy Spirit to take us over, we are asking Jesus to come closer. I personally pray and praise God each day, yet there is something so powerful about worship.

Sometimes I find it hard to shut my mind off to different things and pray with intent. Worshipping can rid my mind of clutter if I am having a hard time praying and when I focus on a bible verse in a song, my focus can quickly turn to the Holy Spirit. Some of the most intimate moments I have had with the Holy Spirit were when I was alone, in my car, praising God and fully engaged in worship.

I have compiled 7 amazing worship songs that have spoken to my heart and have let the Holy Spirit fill me! I hope you enjoy each line as much as I have and really engage yourself in the inexpressible joy that fills you when you let the Spirit take over!

7 Amazing Worship Songs Inviting The Holy Spirit

1.” Spirit Move”- Kalley Heiligenthal

This was one of the first worship songs that just gave me goosebumps, or what I have heard called ” God Bumps” through the whole song. If you haven’t ever experienced those “God bumps” all over your body, you will! Something that I have caught onto quickly when I began routinely praying and worshipping is that you can feel the presence of the Holy Spirit and your body isn’t blind to it either!

The combination of the lyrics and the strong beat immediately open me up!

“I can see it now Your kingdom come,
I can hear it now the sounds of Heaven.
You said that if we ask we’ll receive,
We are asking for the greater measure.”

So Good!!

2. ” Here As In Heaven”- Elevation Worship

Elevation Worship was the first Christian worship team I saw perform and the experience blew away any concert I have ever been to because we were in the presence of the Holy Spirit. They opened with this song and I just loved how this song says:

“You’re the reason we came,
to encounter Your love
Your love, surrounds us”

This is exactly what I feel the Holy Spirit doing when I am worshipping. Love and embrace surrounding me, giving me that happy feeling that you can’t get from anywhere else. And telling the Lord this is the reason why I am worshipping, to feel that love that the Holy Spirit delivers!

3. “Breathe On Us”- Kari Jobe

Christians like Kari Jobe show such use of their God-given talents. She is a brilliant songwriter, worship leader, and singer. Her genuine presence shows how the Holy Spirit works through her on and off stage. I love all her worship songs, especially this one! I could quote the whole song but these few lines speak to me:

“Breathe on us
Holy fire fall
Come and fill this place with
Your presence
Like a rushing wind
Send Your spirit here
Breath of Heaven breathe on us
Breath of Heaven breathe on us”

I love the first two lines because it immediately takes me to Peter standing with the other disciples when they first receive the Holy Spirit as discussed in Acts 2.

The line, ” breath of Heaven breathe on us” is an action I imagine when I am filled during worship. It is like the Holy Spirit finds those empty areas in you and fills it with nothing but goodness!

4. “Holy Spirit”- Francesca Battistelli

Ahhh… this song couldn’t be any more perfect! With its slow, quiet beginning with its holy lyrics that then transitions into a strong and powerful roar! It builds up and I can’t get enough of each line that is sung. No thing can ever compare to the presence of what the Holy Spirit brings us!

“There’s nothing worth more
That could ever come close
No thing can compare
You’re our living hope
Your presence, Lord
I’ve tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
Your presence, Lord

5. “Fullness”- Elevation Worship

Just the title of this song, “Fullness” sums up the power of the Holy Spirit in one word. I love lyrics that paint a picture of what you are worshipping for and this song does it for me! I can close my eyes and picture Jesus spreading the Word of God and feeling a sense of awakening within me.

“What You spoke is now unfolding
All Your children shall behold it
Dreams awaken in this moment
Spirit come, Spirit come”

Take a moment and really read these lyrics, the Elevation Worship team always captures the true essence of worship through praise and their songwriting talents!!

6. “Spirit Breakout”- Kim Walker-Smith

The focus on the Holy Spirit and Heaven in this Kim Walker-Smith’s song is what we long for. The desire to have a world that God intended us to have when He created Adam and Eve. And the best part is we know someday this will actually happen! God will bring us a New Earth and a New Heaven, so we then can dwell with God once again.

But in the meantime, we can experience God through the presence of the Holy Spirit on the earth we dwell on. And while we are here, we can tear down those walls we have created to see all of God’s beauty and feel His presence.

7. “Spirit Of God”- Phil Wickham

I really enjoy worship songs that include scripture or lyrics very close to scripture. It helps me memorize scripture that I may have had a hard time of remembering without it being in a song that I enjoy. This song contains a couple lines that are from scripture. John 3:30 reads, ” He must become greater; I must become less.” And 2 Timothy 1:6 “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.”

Worship is always and will always be something I look forward to because it allows me to spend time with Jesus without being distracted by my own mind. It allows me to focus my heart and thoughts on him when I feel disconnected. 1. Please help me with how all this emphasis on the spirit, fits in with what Jesus said in John’s Gospel about him pointing back to Jesus. Is it about feeling elevated, or deciding to lay one’s life down, as Jesus taught. How is elevation sound reflecting the suffering life of Christ in a fallen world?

  8. Hi Leah…thanks for the inspiration. I would love to experience the HOLY SPIRIT. I am going to play all these song as well. I’m currently reading Good Morning Holy Spirit by Benny Hinn. I was in a horrific motor vehicle accident with my husband and son on the 13th of May 2018. Luckily my son didnt get hurt, my husband bruised his arm…I broke my left leg and left wrist. I had a life n death experience. Jesus saved us…I’ve given my life completely to Jesus. Was married in a Hindu family. Thank you Jesus.

  9. Hi Leah, I was in need of songs that talk about the Holy Spirit and this was just perfect! God bless you!!

  10. Thank you Leah for this amazing blog. I was doing some work and I just felt I needed the Holy Spirit to intervene. I have listened to all Seven songs this afternoon… some even twice and I have felt the “God Bumps” and been able to make really good progress. Thank you Holy Spirit! Thank you God for allowing Leah to so generously share her love for you with the World. Bless her, her family and her ministry. In Jesus Mighty Name. Amen

  11. Leah, remain graciously blessed for being used by the LORD to make available such great and heavily spirit-inspired songs. I was led by the Spirit of God to search for Holy Spirit songs, and when I saw your collection of songs, my mind was made up to go for them.

  12. Dear Leah, beloved sister in Christ,
I am delighted to hear that – like me – you are a trained scientist. We have an eye for things that do not quite add up, do we not? On February 28th, finding myself in a scary place with a diagnosis, I started begging, not for healing, but for mercy and for cleansing of my sins so that I could be at peace with God and shed my guilt. IT HAPPENED! And it was very tangible, and felt like a quite logical sequence of events to me. Immense energy went through me, passing in, passing out again to reach people I cared about (partly with my own semi-guidance), but it was gentle and wonderful and quiet and strengthening all at the same time (what about the physics of that?) I kept murmuring to myself “thank you”, “thank you” as it happened, and I did NOT want it to stop. But when it (sort of) did, I was indeed changed, and have managed to maintain those changes through to today. Sometimes that has been more challenging, but many times it has not been challenging at all! I was given signs of the Spirit in nature (it was Spring and Lent and day after day there were amazing new examples of flora and fauna) which helped compensate for my doubtful state of health – and maybe, just maybe, I was also healed as well as cleansed – I KNOW that would be a piece of cake for the Holy Spirit if that was His will – He could do that me for if He chose and I (now) have TOTAL faith that that can happen, even though I absolutely do not know why some are spared in this way, while others are not). I could touch the hem of Jesus’s coat. I do not deserve that, but then neither did a person far greater than me called Saul/Paul – whose place of shipwreck on the island of Malta I saw a few years ago! Anyway, nature I have loved since I was 4, and I also studied it to Ph.D. level. [I am also crazy about exobiology, and if you look at somebody like Dr David Waltham, who keeps reminding us how incredibly lucky/chancy the survival and development of life on Earth for billions of years has been, and then says he is not quite sure how he can explain it, you will not be surprised that I write to him from time to time to suggest that actually Ockham’s Razor as the basis of science might be used to give the simplest answer “God did it”!!!] Anyway, the Spirit of course knew how to encourage me using nature, and amazing birds passed by my lockdown window on migration this spring. [We must be better people thanks to the pandemic, must learn our lesson, must live better with nature, must be humbler, MUST be changed forever! I do NOT want to go back to “the old life”, which was not good or thoughtful enough!] Anyway, we see a church through that window, and one day there were 20-30 migrating storks circling over the church – never seen anything like that in any year previously! Like you, I also have been guided to certain pieces of music in which the Spirit abides – thank you (and thank HIM) for those here (which do offer the “God Bumps” you refer to which I are so well-known to me). I am using your songs as inspiring background as I write these words – which also come pretty easy! Yet some pieces of music are NOT so obviously and deliberately spiritual, even as it is easy to see from Comments on YouTube how many non-Christians are being reached by them, feeling something, but not “seeing” fully. Talking of “see” – as you might expect perhaps, the genius of the Spirit was to inspire M. Night Shyamalan to make the magnificent film “Signs” (Shyamalan admits the film was easier to make than any of his others – “it just came to him”). And that film had a specific and clearly “noble” goal to help people come to terms and get past the terrible events of September 11th 2001 by finding some new understanding and joy in spite of everything! The music from the movie is by James Newton Howard, always a great composer, but also benefiting from the Spirit in this case; to compose a piece called “Hand fo Fate I and II” (it should be “Hand of God”, of course). This is one example of the music I have found that “inspires” people in incredible ways. So my God-given task is now to write to those who post under that music to tell them what the true source of what they feel really is. Mostly this is received positively, I must say! Anyway, wonderful that a film called “Signs” about signs from God becomes a sign in itself in the real world! Just the kind of playfully beautiful thing the amazing and blessed and gorgeous Holy Spirit likes to do. And that spreading of love through the music makers (who are not “drugged” or “taken over”, but taken with their talents to a greater and higher place – whether they even realise it or not) and on to those who comment because they are driven to share what they feel is again the “something from nothing”, which physics is not so comfortable with. It also defies entropy as perhaps the most fundamental concept of the universe – that everything gets less ordered over time! Here with “Abide and Seek” you are part of that helping to create a better order – so all love and strength to you in those God-given efforts!

  13. One of my favorite Pentecost songs is “Send it on Down”. I also like “Holy Spirit Rain Down”

  14. Thank you. My heart is in turmoil. I don’t think it was an accident I happened upon your post this a.m. I seek a calm spirit for me..and my family..love,Amy
