Chris Martin covers up during grocery run in Malibu... as Coldplay wins Best Rock trophy at MTV Europe Music Awards

He has fronted one of the best-selling, and acclaimed, rock bands since the turn of the millennium.

And on Sunday Coldplay, and frontman Chris Martin, took home another accolade by winning the Best Rock award at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

With the COVID-19 pandemic still raging, Martin accepted the honor, via video, from his adopted home in Malibu, California, where he later stepped out for a grocery run.

The British native looked nearly unrecognizable for his walk to the local store on yet another sunny Southern California day, although with a slight chill of autumn in the air.

He covered up with a protective mask, in accordance to health and safety protocols, and a white and green baseball cap.

The singer and multi-instrumentalist kept it weekend casual in black sweatpants with a white sweater and black high-top sneakers.

Martin also had a green scarf around his neck as he carried a bag full of groceries and headed back to his nearby home.

Coldplay's Best Rock award on Sunday is their eighth win at the MTV EMAs since their first nomination in 2002.

The band have also notched seven wins at the MTV Video Music Awards, including the Best Rock award for their song Orphans earlier in 2020.

Over the years, they have won seven Grammy Awards out of 34 nominations.

The virtual and socially-distanced MTV EMAs 2020...

The socially-distanced and pre-recorded event saw a star-studded line-up from across the world with appearances from  Los Angeles, London and Canada.

Little Mix hosted the show, without member Jesy Nelson who had been taken ill. They girls appeared on a computer generated stage within the 'stadium'.

Most of the show was filmed in advance on November 1.

The ceremony was held at a virtual stadium which was  full of waving and cheering fans.

Alicia Keys performed her new song from Los Angeles, Maluma sang from a penthouse in Miami, while David Guetta went all out from a stage built in the pool of the Széchenyi Bath in Hungary.

Acts stood two metres apart from one another for their glamorous photocalls.

The 2020 MTV EMAs were hosted by the girl group Little Mix.

Like their American counterpart this year, the performances for the show were filmed at various locations across the world due to the coronavirus crisis.

The South Korean pop group BTS won a leading four awards, including Best Song for Dynamite and Best Group Sunday night.

Lady Gaga took the best artist prize, Best Video went to DJ Khaled for Popstar, which featured Drake, Little Mix took home Best Pop, and Doja Cat got the Best New award.
